Buffalo MediaStation 8x Portable CD/DVD Writer

i bought my product yesterday... good packaging, light wait, glossy finish, sleek and stylish design will blow your mind initially.
burning speed is well enough, copy contents from disc is poor (4Mbps).. also the provided software cyber-link power2go is quite good!
the main factor--- THE USB(dual) CABLE is very very tiny guys. just 10 inches! i found myself very hard to connect to my USB ports.... if u have desktop, u'll face the problem. u'll need an external USB(dual) connector to get rid of this!!
and if you think u can run it with 1 USB port.. oops! u just cant... it wont work after a minute (red light blink)! the drive will be disable !
the bottom line- THE PRODUCT IS A WORTH BUY...NYC DESIGN AND WORKS GOOD! JUST WATCH OUT FOR THE CABLES! HOPE ITS HELPFUL!

This one is best one i have used, i went with review but later i came to know it does not need two usb , can work with one usb also , two usb are given just in case your laptop or system does not give enough power to DVD writer or ur usb has weak power output , in such case u need to plug second usb which is additional feature where other brand fails to provide or simply give error message like transcend or samsung , But this one works awsome even in case of heavy data files.

I've been using an earlier model of the Buffalo DVD writer and its still running like a champ for the last 4 years. Buffalo is an award-winning American brand so you can rely on it...its even better than Transcend I believe.

This is perfect for your netbook...or your laptop/desktop if you don't have a DVD writer.

Remember that EVERY external DVD writer needs 2 USB ports for writing DVDs/CDs so make sure that your laptop/netbook has 2 free USB ports before you buy this...some old laptops have just one USB port!

This comes with a CyberLink burning software, but I recommend the free Ashampoo Burning Studio 6...its the best free burning software in my opinion.

Well i used it right after i got the delivery. But first, i have a hp dv5 laptop with 4 usb ports,the drive didnt work on single cable for me so i had to use two ports(i.e power boost also), even after that it showed red light so i used the ports on other side and it worked. I burned a couple of discs and it did good. Then when i tried to install a game(original dvd) once again showed power shortage, i tried a few times more to make sure but it still didnt work, though all other movie dvds and the once which i burnt worked properly.I then noticed a 5v external power supply jack in drive but i didnt have any adapters for it, but after a bit of searching i found my psp adapter is of same specifications required and it worked. So before buying make sure your usb ports work proper or u have a 5v adapter..

I bought it from buffalo showroom and tested it for 3 days. I made it play a scratched CD and it played it. Put a scratched DVD and it played it. I then put a scratchless DVD and of course it played it. Then I tested its writing speed. For this I put a blank DVD and selected 4GB+ of data to be written. It burnt all of the data in just 11 minutes. I used the software cyberlink which was provided to me alongwith the writer in a CD. Next i tried copying things and it was again fast. But there is also a prob with this device. If you use it with a USB hub it do not get enough power. There are two chords in it. One is the power chord and the other a power boost. The power chord is used to give it power and the boost to give it additional power. But plugging both the chord in the USB hub did not give it enough power to run. I then plugged the device directly in the USB port and it worked like a charm. This is the only issue that I had with the device till now and other than that its almost a perfect product I will say. Also buffalo gives you 2 years on-site warranty which is a really good thing to have as most of the time I don't have the time to take it to a service center. Overall go for this product with eyes closed. One of the best dvd writers I have used.
