Rediscover the world as you know it through the eyes of a young boy and his stuffed tiger with a penchant for philosophy and anarchy in Bill Watterson’s The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book.
Summary of the Book
What is it like to view the world with the kaleidoscopic tint of childhood? Why is the world so complicated to adults, and why do we do things in such an odd way? Adulthood isn’t all it is cracked up to be, at least not to kids. Calvin knows that better than anyone. All of five years old, Calvin enjoys the great experience of childhood like it should be enjoyed: with adventure, a certain disdain for senseless rules and a highly overactive imagination that adults sadly leave behind when they grow up. Calvin’s no ordinary young kid, he’s managed to tame a wild tiger, one that still tries to get the jump on him every day he comes back from school. Hobbes is a good friend to keep around, as good as a tiger can get of course. However, there’s only so much one can expect from a tiger. Together, Calvin and Hobbes brave the dangerous realms of space, prehistoric zoology and having to explain why the house is flooded. Sadly, though, no one seems to take Hobbes seriously. What do they think he is, a stuffed tiger?
This book includes an exclusive and long introduction by Bill Watterson, where he reveals his thoughts on the making of a comic strip. He also writes about his inspirations and his thoughts on the success of the strip. The strips included are annotated, and given original commentary. Fans will love the descriptions of the cast of the comic they all know and love.
