When Patricia met Charles, he was a handsome young man who came from a poor family with one goal in mind -- to become a millionaire and to out perform his wealthy brother who was a Yale graduate, and his sister, a Smith graduate, who married into a moneyed family. Charles was a high school dropout mainly because he was tall and thin and self conscious of wearing hand-me-down clothes. When he fell in love with Patricia, he realized she could help him reach his goal. She was educated and her parents were well-known and respected in their town.
