Canon EOS 550D SLR

I did not know what to expect buying an expensive DSLR (my first) online. Traditional wisdom pushed me towards going to a local dealer and establish a relationship.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had no time as a close person was rushed to the hospital. I ordered online and forgot about it. My roller coaster ride with Flipkart had begun. A few days later I found my order cancelled. On inquiring with Flipkart, they investigated the matter and resolved it within 2 days. The camera was brought to my doorstep within those 2 days.

I have come to appreciate the team of Flipkart and the service they provide. This is a start of online relationship for many years to come.

After doing my research on pricing, I figured out that Flipkart is cheapest (across online and offline). Placed my order on Tuesday evening and got it delivered on Thursday afternoon. Ten on ten for the following:
1. Packaging
2. Timely delivery
3. Freebies

I wanted to place an order for 600D, but figured out that it is just 550D swivel LCD for another 10.5k. I did not want to pay so much just for an additional LCD feature. So I ordered 550D. Flipkart rocks!

I needed a DSLR with wide-telephoto requirements and my budget was not more than 50,000 INR. Browsing through Flipkart, I zeroed in on this model which has a 550D body with 18-135 mm lens, a free DSLR bag, a 4 gig SD card and also an awesome tripod. This was the best deal I could strike anywhere at that point of time and so I went for it. The 550D is one of the very good cameras (in the medium price range) and it being sported with a 18-135 mm lens gives a lot more advantages than when compared to a 18-55 mm lens.

Pros:
-- Wide range of photography
-- Good at all ranges of focal length
-- Excellent flash
-- Good battery life
-- Amazing clarity in daylight (Unbeatable)
Cons:
-- Average picture quality in low light
-- Flash becomes a must in low light for good picture quality

Verdict:
If your budget is anywhere starting from 30k, I would say please do not waste money on low-end cameras and regret it later, go for the Canon 550D with 18-135 mm lens. Just one hell of an amazing deal.

First of all, this is an awesome camera..I have used a SLR before but that was a MINOLTA analog SLR..and even after that I find it a bit difficult to get used to all the features 550D has.I wonder how can some one call this model an entry level DSLR..It is way more superior than that...This is a camera which has the same sensor of 7D..and in some areas, its superior than 50D...That means, you can upgrade to 7D directly if you require further. I'm not discouraging the new buyers, but I would request them to go through the user manual thoroughly to know what you hold...Trust me...the owner will feel proud knowing the capabilities of 550D..I got it from Relliance Digital, Bangalore...paid Rs. 1.00 exactly..Got 16 gb card, cam pouch and a tripod..I feel myself lucky to get a 550 D at this point of time as canon has stopped production of this model..Coming back to flipcart, they, I have to admit are the cheapest when you want to purchase online..Adding to that...I have heard from my friends about their good efficiencies. So...one who still are confused, better grab the deal..or else you may have to repent later..

Very easy to learn. Reading the manual and going through few online tutorials would be sufficient.

Every control buttons on right side of camera which makes it lot more comfortable to handle and shoot.
I would say 550d is the camera that you will ever need. Lots of photographers use it.
If u like to take more self portraits go for 600d in this range.
