Sensor Technology
This camera is equipped with the latest in APS-C CMOS sensors with 18 MP. This is a great sensor for some high quality photography even under low light conditions.
Continuous Shooting
The camera by Canon is equipped with a Continuous Shooting Mode where in you can shoot high speed images at a rate of 4.5 FPS which allows you to shoot multiple images in high quality along a short span of time.
ISO Sensitivity
The ISO settings are usually tweaked when the lighting varies along the brightness scale. When you are shooting under bright conditions, you generally need to set a low ISO setting of around 100 though this needs to be increased as the lighting dims. This camera can range between ISO 100 to 6400.
Wide Area AF
This camera is able to focus along 19 points when in the auto focus mode and can also be used for manual focusing along these points. The 19 point wide area focusing will allow you to focus on individual areas of an object that will let you get some nice perspective based and depth of field shots.
iFCL Metering and Intelligent Viewfinder
The new system stands for Focus Color Luminance metering system that is very helpful in getting the right luminance levels for varying color shades across subjects that are in focus. This also lets you pick out the right settings based on the readings displayed so that all your photos may be reproduced with the closest resemblance to the original subject that is photographed. This is also possible thanks to the Intelligent Viewfinder that comes with the Canon Camera. This display can show a set of read-outs that can accurately help in correcting your image settings before you go ahead and click the final image.

With the Canon EOS 7D, you can take photos in Full HD at a resolution of 1080 p which translates into high quality and highly detailed videos that can accurately capture all your favorite moments in a digital format.

Good APSC camera
This is a great camera and gives you great pictures. It is very versatile in that it gives you speeds of up to 1/8000sec and goes up to 6400 ISO. You cannot manually go below 100 ISO though.
I love the controls on this camera - far friendlier than the controls on the 500/550/600D cameras.
At 18MP, it provides you with great resolution for most personal needs with today's technology (for display).

Equipped with an efficient 18 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, the 7D can capture images of incredible quality ensuring that every picture has accurate exposure and colour information. The device can record movies in Full HD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
Developed with 19 cross-type high-precision autofocus system and AI Servo AF, the 7D offers excellent flexibility while focusing. It features dual DIGIC 4 image processor and in-camera RAW image processing that processes images efficiently. The camera can capture up to 8 shots per second on the continuous shooting mode.
Featuring a 3-inch TFT LCD with 920,000 dots, the display lets you view preview scenes, live view during video recording and also lets you view the videos and images captured. The eye-level pentaprism makes the viewfinder more efficient. The 7D also has a depth-of-field preview button that helps shooting images.
The Canon 7D has an electronically-controlled focal-plane shutter which provides shutter speed of 1/8000 to 30 sec. The Bulb mode allows you to control the shutter release even further.
The ISO range of the camera is ISO 100-6400. It can further be expanded to H, which is equivalent to ISO 12800.
With a 63-zone TTL full aperture metering, the camera offers Evaluative Metering, Partial Metering, Spot and Center-weighed Average Metering.
The 7D comes with +/- 5 stops of exposure compensation on manual mode and has a flash exposure of up to +/- 3 stops.
The 7D is built with a powerful retractable auto pop-up flash with a recycle time of approximately 3 seconds.
Pictures can be stored in both JPEG as well as RAW image file formats of varying sizes to retain the quality, while movies can be captured in MOV format. The 7D supports CF card type I and II, and also UDMA-compliant CF cards. Images can be recorded to USB external media via Wireless File Transmitter (WFT-E5).
The Canon 7D can be connected to other supported devices using Hi-speed USB 2.0 as well as mini HDMI to transfer images and videos.
Powered by a CR1616 lithium-ion battery that can be recharged when necessary, the battery provides 1000 shots without flash and up to 800 shots with 50% flash usage. The power level will be indicated on the LCD as well as the viewfinder in 6 levels.
The 7D features the silent shooting option that will be extremely useful while doing wildlife photography. The highlight warning option indicates the highlights in the picture that you have shot making it easier for you to make necessary changes in the shot you take next.
