Solid Snapper

This is a very sturdy, well built, easy to use & easy to handle camera from Canon, that I'm happy to own.

Pros
Sturdy solid build and very easy to grip & hold.
Very good outdoor pics.
Good indoor pics even in dim lighting, with great control over the flash to give clear pics.
Decent video for a low cost camera.
Excellent battery life esp for pencil cells, nimh or alkaline

Cons-
-Painfully slow, when flash is used. Very irritating at parties when you need to click a burst of snaps at night or indoors.
-No video button. Need to navigate on screen to toggle from Camera to video or the program & scene modes. Not too difficult but an irritant.

Pick this camera up, if you need a cheap, solid, good snapper for casual photography indoors or outdoors. It gives very good pics overall and is relatively easy to use. If you need a real quick shooter especially indoors, (with flash) you're better off going for a more expensive model (A3200, A3300 or IXUS) or for any Panasonic camera.
Have given a 3 star rating cause I'm disappointed with the slow speed of the camera indoors with flash.

Best Buy for the price

Canon Powershots are known for their reliability and performance. It's true even for their least-expensive beginner-oriented Powershot A800.

This is possibly the best choice for those who are new to photography.
There is the great 'Smart Auto' mode for complete automation.
But there is also a "P" mode where you can adjust 3 Autofocus options, control Flash, adjust Exposure and/or select from around 10 preset scene modes (like Fireworks, Blur Reduction, Long Shutter, Portrait, Sunset, Beach etc.)

The lack of an Image Stabilizer (IS) is NOT felt with a decently-steady hand. (You can try the Blur Reduction mode if you can't get it steady, though the image size will then be limited to 2MP)

The low-light performance too, is very satisfactory (at this price point).

In all, the Powershot A800 is great value-for-money.
It's a Canon, it's simple enough for beginners and has enough potential inside for a beginner to grow into.

great camera with 1cm macro capibility

This camera is very good as it can shoot just from 1cm away objects.
No camera in this range has such a good macro.
If anyone looking for creativity can choose this camera.

great for point and shoot

This is a great camera for someone who just wants to point and shoot. I bought one for my father - who's over 70 - and he found it super-easy to operate.

The screen resolution is excellent, the photos taken on auto-mode have great colour, and the zoom is more than sufficient for daily use. It comes with rechargeable batteries (and a charger) which make it very easy to recharge. May not be the best thing if you're on the go, though (the charger is bulky to carry around).

If you're looking for something basic for someone who doesn't know much about photography, but just wants good looking shots of family and friends, this is a great buy.

I chose this over Nikon L23...

When i was about to buy a basic point & shoot camera, i couldn't decide whether to buy this or Nikon Coolpix L23. Though Nikon has better technical specifications, almost all expert reviews rate Canon A800 better than Nikon L23; mostly because of its better picture quality. The product was delivered in 2 days. I am satisfied with the awesome service of Flipkart. Keep it up.

Oh! and as for the camera, i think its a good buy for its price.
