best tarvel zoom camera of 2012

this one is a really awesome camera to own, picture quality is also really good. 20x zoom works well and can be taken to 80x with digital zoom. full manual options such as PASM makes this camera suitable for the ones who like to test and experiment with their cameras. although canon says that the battery lasts only 230 shots, i have got around 260 along with video recording.

low light imaging is also good(but remember to use P mode and keep the ISO in the range of 400-800)
flash works well in dark areas.
Handheld night scene mode is also a treat to have.
all other effects such as fish eye etc also give promising results

1080p recording is also good (with slight noise of the motor while zooming)..i can live with it
slow motion is an fantastic feature(check youtube videos, they are impressive)

for the ones searching for good image quality in travel zoom cameras look no further than the SX240 HS, this one is way ahead than TZ-30(noise in pics even at ISO 100) and S9300(better than panasonic) in IMAGE QUALITY.

Very much delighted with this camera

Bought this just last week and took about 500 photos plus videos to fully test it out. I must say I'm delighted with it. The lens delivers sharp results throughout the range and what a range! The 25mm end is surprisingly usable while the 500mm telephoto end introduces a new dimension into your photography. I'm frankly astonished at the image stabilisation. Given reasonably bright conditions it allows me to successfully handhold even at the extreme end of the range on quite a high percentage of occasions. Now that is amazing considering my hands are not steady at all. I haven't found any great problem with the screen outdoors even in very bright conditions, while wearing sunglasses and there was still a bit of brightness adjustment available for the screen. Focusing works well and is fast enough for my purposes. There are lots of adjustments available through the various menus and it's great fun trying them all out.
Overall a nice piece of kit which will keep me very happy for a couple of years until the buying urge returns.

WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Good one

I did not buy this from Flipkart this time but this one is real good. Though bit bulky (but it fits in my jeans pocket), this is worth your money. It can take cool pictures in dark, day pictures are DSLR quality. Its very easy to use unlike DSLR's and the bonus in 20X optical zoom. The chip inside it does many (and many means many) important things which is so critical for good photos. I am sure you won't use all the functions in the camera as "Auto" mode takes good quality pictures but if you are into camera then those features might prove handy to you. I was apprehensive spending 17k on a camera but now I am thanking my good stars that I bought this one. I don't think I will be buy another one in atleast 3-4 years.

excellent picture quality

I hav just purchased one month back from shopping mall in Bangalore. I went to purchase a sony h200 as sony is my brand. as I gone through cameras , I thought this canon 240hs would click better pictures.. Full battery can take this pics of 240 no.s as mentioned in canon handbook. but I personally experienced that I have taken up to 350 pics with full battery charge. It is best camera for travel..

Pros:
Better Picture Quality
Better Video Quality
good battery life
Full HD recording

Cons:
20X is not much zooming quality
Price is quite relatively high
Dps is quite low

overall I am satisfied with this camera model. I suggest if anybody wants to buy it, can go ahead...

SLR in compact size....

this cam is really good....
people like me would never go-in for the hassles involved in handling a SLR when things like this are available.

be it the HD recording or the pics in different settings....all clicks well with this cam at your disposal.
the clarity and zoom are too good and work well.flash works well and battery back-up is promising :)
