Canon SX40 HS Point & Shoot

I have been contemplating on buying a super zoom for a while now, had almost zeroed down on Sony Cybershot HX100 & Panasonic Lumix FZ150 but then came across this one. I guess it is one of the best super zoom cameras that we currently have in the market. At least better than its predecessor SX30IS. What I like about this camera is its versatility in terms of still as well as video quality. Though the absence of manual RAW mode is a little put off but still this camera has some great features in terms of the new DIGIC 5 processor with faster performance, slow motion video option, great macro shots, amazing full HD and slow motion video features, not to forget optical image stabilization which performs superbly well. You get to feel the power of HS once u look at the crisp picture quality. trust me limiting the megapixels to 12.1 has infact improved the picture quality here.
On the "could have been better" side:
2.7 inch LCD with limited pixels
No external mic option
No GPS
Would have made this a a real rockstar cam but I guess as they say there is always a scope for improvement and one cant expect everything in one package.
I would highly recommend it considering the overall package plus 2 years warranty option and one of the better service back ups that we have with Canon.
If you love super zoom's then this one is for you..

I have purchased it few days ago , still learning how to use it but till now i am completely satisfied with the camera.
Picture clarity is Awesome and video is outstanding with Digic 5 processor Technology.
This is the camera for Decades and no other digital camera can beat it.If you compare Canon Sx 40 HS with Nikon p500 or With sony hx100v, its like comparing BMW with Ford And Opel.
Canon Sx 40 HS is way ahead of any digital camera.

I got this camera 1 month ago and its really rocking.Wonderfull zoom and stablization powers this camera so far.If you are looking for raw shooting and more manual control just apply CHDK hack which will empower this camera in serious evil photography tool(If you are want to do more you will know how CHDK will boost your any canon camera into comparable DSLR).

Pros:Awesome macro, stablization at high zoom, articulated 360 degree LCD screen, very good battery backup, awesome video quality of 1080p, super slow movie 240 fps

Cons: No manual zoom barrel

Two must thing you want have with Canon Powershot SX40 HS:
1: Raynox 250-d macro lens
2: light tripod

Rival of Canon Powershot SX40 HS: Panasonic FZ 150

Nikon P500 no where stands around this monster.

This is superb camera with great photo quality. When you spend around 30K, the only thing comes to mind is Y not SLR..
I must say picture quality is almost same but may not be greater than SLR camera...but remember SLR cant provide such Zooooom..
And about Zoom...no camera can beat this Zoom and clarity that u get in full Zoom...Even with hand held u can get great pictures..and with tripod, u cant even imagine...
I have gone for a bird watch and i was amazed with the pictures that I have taken..even my friends
In SLR, if u want same zoom lens u have to sell ur flat..just kidding..i mean it is practically impossible to get 840MM range zoom in SLR cameras..
This is an awesome camera and u will just love it and its settings...This is an All In One Camera..
Dont think about any other option..just go for it...

If you are looking for a bridge camera which can give you most options of dslr, including great quality pictures then go for this.
I had deliberated a lot on buying dslr, but the overhead maintenance of it is what made me look for bridge alternatives and this is one of best out there (I think Panasonic FZ150 is the only one par with this for this category of camera, but then it falls short on zoom range)
pics quality are great when subjects are still.
one down side I found was in auto mode it takes time to find proper focus on subject, and manual setting sometimes is difficult, but that is something one can get used to after some time.

My advice, if you are amateur photographer looking to experiment on photography then go for this, you will not regret it.

Unfortunately for my by the time I decided to buy this, it was out of stock on flip-kart, hopefully they bring it in as this is a serious option for bridge model buyers
