Casio FX991MS Scientific

I used to have a Casio 9FX Caculator during my college days as most of the other students had. There were two versions of the Casio calculator and the cover used to break by the time you moved to Second year. The richer ones among us used to sport the trendy ones from Texas Instruments. Come to think of it the Calculator was called Calci during those days. I am not sure whether the same slang persists now or not.

Anyway coming to the product the updated FX991MS model from Casio is the best of the lot. The cover is a slider type and can fit as top cover or can be used for support as bottom cover.

The calculator has got all the functions required to tackle all subjects of Engineering be it Maths, Theory of Machines, Heat and Mass Transfer, Thermodynamics, Fluid Machines, Machine Desgin et al...yes I am a Mechanical Enginner and I purchased this one for my brother in law who has recently joined an Engg College.

If you are an engineering student take an engineer's word and buy this calculator. Its the best of the lot and Flipkart is offering it at discounted rates. What else are you looking for ???

This product is a nice product. Let me mark first, it has the best sleek outlook out of all the models of CASIO.

It has a lot of functions. The most useful are-
1. Trigonometric Functions
2. Logarithmic
3. Factorials
4. Permutation/Combinations
5. Solving Equations
6. Definite Differential+Integral Calculus can be solved
7. Complex no. form
8. Matrix
9. Vectors
10. And lot more.
It has a life of 17000hours[the battery] which is 708 days of continuous i.e. 24x7 which is quite impossible.
The service of Flipkart and its reliable original product will give you 7long years of faithful service. The point of originality of this product is that, it will give the writing CASIO during switching ON and OFF. The hologram of Casio is another one.
It has an automatic shutdown system after 6mins of No-Use period.
Those who are new please note that, the calculator is switched off by pressing SHIFT and AC.
This calculator also has two powered system. One is the battery which is non-reusable, but it has the solar energy option which brings your smile back even after the exhaustion of its original battery. But the point is, a person who buys this once, if not lost or broken, gives a life long service with a secure starting of 3years of warranty from the CASIO itself. Thanks to Flipkart again.

Haven't bought this from flipkart, but from the market. Price at flipkart is very good.

Pro: Good build quality. 2 line display, both lines quite large and legible. Reasonably large buttons for easy use. Runs on LR44 cell as backup when light is not sufficient for solar panel to work. Very sleek. Scroll up-down to look at previous calculations. Speedy processor (I use 69! - 69 factorial - as a good calculation to check speed in any calculator).

Con: Very few and probably very minor. Just would have liked more previous calculations to be displayed (limited to previous 11 in standard mode, 6 in complex mode). Cannot change contrast. Last calculations scroll lost on off-on calculator. This may cause battery to drain even in off mode, so not really a con. LR44 can be changed only by removing full back cover - would have liked a small opening with single screw to replace cell.

All in all, it is a very smooth, clear and fast experience. Would definitely recommend. And my experience with flipkart has always been good.

Even though FX-991ES Plus is this FX-991MS's brother (except for few extra functions and full dot-matrix screen), would not recommend ES as I found the build quality of ES a bit lacking, labelling and plastic cheap. Go for FX-991MS!

I have been using this for the past year and it has worked perfectly.
The form factor is just amazing. It is very thin and light as compared to the ones available a few years back. The solid cover is very useful as it prevents the calculator itself from getting damaged. It has everything that a science as well as engineering student will ever need (to do on a calculator ;))

This does not have the notebook display, which however, i dont feel is very helpful. If you plan on using this calculator for a long time then have a look at FX991ES as well before purchasing (the only difference is the display).
