Ambalavaner Sivanandan has been director of the Institute of Race Relations and editor of its journal Race & Class for over 35 years. From the 1960s, Sivanandan has written on race issues for the "Guardian, New Statesman" and "New Society," and also many articles for IRR's publications. His novel, "When Memory Dies," won the Commonwealth Writers Prize (First Novel Eurasia) and the Sagittarius Prize.
