Book: The Celibate Ladies' Man Tim Gannon's mentor, Monsignor Kelly, assured Tim that having survived the death of his childhood sweetheart, working part time for his family's detective agency during high school and three years of college, he should find the first year of seminary studies a breeze. That was before Tim incurred the wrath of Bill Demero, the city's vice king, while defending Beth O'Meara, a teenage Eurasian woman. Tim is suspended from seminary and is tried and convicted of assaulting Demero. After the hearing, Tim and Rose Lavelle, the city attorney, are confronted by a wounded Beth, who missed Tim's hearing, having been shot and abused by the partner of an international terrorist known as "The Major." Tim, unaware that Beth has in her possession chemicals of a Dr. Lee, assumes that Demero is responsible for the shooting. Dr. Lee hires the Gannon Detective Agency to recover the chemicals, and for the remainder of the story Tim risks his life to protect Beth, recover the chemicals, solve the murders of two other women, and relieve Rose Lavelle from a blackmail plot.
