When a Web site impresses you with dynamic documents fill-out forms fancy animation or clickable imagemaps it's likely that it's done using the Common Gateway Interface commonly known as CGI. CGI isn't a programming language in itself but is the mechanism by which Web browsers interact with programs running on the Web server. Using CGI a programmer can give an interactive interface to an otherwise static Web site.
