  • Description

Chanakya’s New Manifesto to Resolve the Crisis within India, by Pavan K. Varma, attempts to figure out what one of classical India’s greatest thinkers and strategists would do if confronted with the numerous crises that plague today’s India.

    Summary of the Book

This book is both a call to action as well as an insightful account of the issues that India is facing today. The author asserts that there is a practical and thorough plan, based on the seminal work of Chanakya, the Arthashastra, to bring about transformation in the five key areas that need immediate attention – governance, democracy, corruption, security, and the creation of an inclusive society. Whether it is setting up the groundwork for a self-governing and active Lokpal or effectively weeding out the corrupt politicians, the answers this book recommends, are practical and well within the constitutional structure.

    Wish our Politicians read this

This is really something our Politicians should read. I know it will be hard (very very hard) for them to digest and implement (even 5%) but still I would want them to read ... just to realise what a mess they have created.

The book is a thorough analysis of the problems plagueing the country and the good thing is that it does not stop at the rhetoric. It goes one step ahead and recommends concrete action steps (real practical ones and not theoretical ones) to improve the situation.

    Insightful read

While buying this, I first felt that the author is just riding on brand "Chanakya" to sell this. But within the first few pages you will realize that it not only pin points the present day problems for India, but also provides a comprehensive and realistic agenda on how to bring about change.
I got really inspired reading this book. If we could implement even half of the things written here, India could easily overtake China as soon as in the next 5 years!
For me the favourite solution was t...

    Interesting Book on Current India

Reading a non-fiction at times boring as lots of description, analysis with technical terms and jargon. I found this book interesting.
    Reasons are the following:
    Easy and quick read
Author makes it a point to mention that book is a blue print
meant for debate and not the final document for approval
though you can find some analysis with words that are normally used, I didn't get bored with the same
Hope is the key of the book, reform oriented in the current system

    Does Hinduism Connive at Corruption

Pavan Varma comes up with an absurd theory which seeks to stereotype the Hindu religion and millions of its followers as morally loose and ‘corruption friendly.’

Please read the elaborate response to Pavan Varma's theory on Vijayvaanidotcom before purchasing this book.
