Chandragupta-Path of A Fallen Demi-God (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.149

A far cry from a typical history book, this text abounds in scholarly facts and is a delight to read. The writer has taken a different path and done justice to the magnetic figure that Chandragupta Maurya was, instead of simply presenting him in a historical light.

Summary Of The Book

Historically and otherwise, Chandragupta Maurya is definitely one of the more interesting individuals from the history of India. His life and time has been a topic of much debate, discussion, and even controversy.

Born in a relatively unknown village to a farmer, he was raised in conditions of extreme poverty and destitution. Later in life, he went on to serve as an attendant at a palace in the city of Pataliputra.

As the story progresses, readers are introduced to the point where Maurya turned his life around and became king. The book takes its readers through an alternate world - over the plains lying east of the River Indus and the many wars and battles fought at Kalinga. Chandragupta: Path Of A Fallen Demi-God provides extensive information about the Mauryan Empire, which was spread out over the Indian subcontinent.

Readers can witness the change in the king’s mindset too, as his waning interest in statecraft and peaking interest and subsequent submission to a life of spirituality is depicted.

Published in the year 2011, the book was met with positive reviews, mostly owing to the fact that books about Chandragupta Maurya are mostly historical accounts that don’t do complete justice to the man himself.

Pathetic Writing Style

Since history is all about presenting facts the author has no role in the plot. All tiny bits and pieces of history have been put together in this book. But what really disappointed me is the writing style which is mundane. There are too many instances of spelling mistakes which I am not sure is because of the poor review of the editing team or the printing press. There are too many contrasting stories on Chandragupta Maurya from what the Internet offers on the very same person.

Good Read

This is a great book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I liked the narration and the presentation style of the author. I normally take a lot of time to complete a book but I read this book in flat two days. Great read, highly recommended.

Gripping Story but UNPARDONABLE typographical and grammatical errors

No doubt a wonderful story with a peek into the private life of the great Mauryan which I'd never knew about. One of the many versions of Chandragupta Maurya's life I have read. But this is no way to release a book without any proof reading done at all! How else can one explain the incredible number of errors that torture the reader throughout! I mean the author must have had some real urgent need for money to get this book published at the earliest.

While I appreciate the ability of the author to hold the readers' attention throughout the story; the readers expect good quality books from Flipkart which unfortunately is not the case here. I recommend 'Chanakya's Chant' any day to readers wanting to explore the Mauryan times for the first time.

chandra fallen literary attempt

A poorly written book... mediocre language skills....poor story telling... too many grammatical/spelling mistakes. This book had a great chance to portray the glory of Samrat and his relationship with Vishnugupta, state, Mudrarakshas, Bhadrashal, Buddhism, jainism, Greek invasion, etc. It is written as though the pre-writting research was done in haste without passion.

A book done in by the editorial and proof reading team

This book could have been much much more, but it has been shoddily proof read and edited that it takes away the impact the book could have had. There are mistakes galore in the book (both typos and other errors). A big thumbs done to the publishing team.

Good attempt, but several instances of poor formatting on the Editors' part

I liked the narration of the author. I felt it could be made into a Bollywood movie, with proper directorial guidance of course (if you know what I mean). However, the editors did a poor job as there are many spelling mistakes throughout the novel. Sometimes it gets too distracting for the reader... (View complete review)

Easy read

Division of the life events in small chapters makes it a very captive and easy read and also shows the evolution of a boy to a man we know as the Chandragupta Maurya. written in simple english and being devoid of boring historical terms makes it an ideal gift to young readers as well. Good story but lots of errors

The story was pacy, writing style was good, but it has lots of TYPOGRAPHICAL errors. Apart from the historical facts, it deals with the human side of the life of a SAMRAT. His ups and downs, his emotions. It was worth reading. Hope the author continues writing but has to take care of errors. (View complete review)

Good facts...but pretty drab in quality of reading

The books offers a large number of inputs but the style of writing is poor and amaturish. One would get bored correcting grammatical errors which take away the interst in the book. Facts are well placed, but at times the descriptions are just not necessary. The language uses Indianisms like "... (View complete review)
