Amitav Ghosh is a well-known Bengali author who has written several books like The Shadow Lines, The Calcutta Chromosome, and The Hungry Tide, amongst others. He was born on the 11th of July, 1956, in Kolkata, and completed his schooling at The Doon School. Ghosh later continued his further studies at St. Stephen’s College and Delhi School of Economics. He also received his doctorate in social anthropology from St Edmund Hall, Oxford. In the year 2007, he was honored with the Padma Shri by the Indian Government. Ghosh currently resides in New York, along with his spouse Deborah Baker.
