  • Description

As a young boy, Tsukuru Tazaki had four best friends. The difference between him and his friends was that they all happened to have the presence of a colour in their names, while Tsukuru did not. This story goes on to show the life of Tsukuru Tazaki after he was disowned by his so-called friends.

    Summary of the Book

Tsukuru Tazaki did not have had a colour as part of his name. Could this be the reason that his four best friends, who had names which contained colours, say that that they don’t want to be his friends anymore? These friends were two girls, who went by the names of Shirane meaning ‘white root’ and Kurono meaning ‘black field’, and two boys called Akamatsu which meant ‘red pine’ and Oumi, ‘blue sea’. All four of them decide one fine day that they will not see Tsukuru nor talk to him ever again. Ever since, the colourless Tazaki has been going about his life like it had no meaning to it, and unable to have connections of any kind with anyone. One fine day, he meets Sara. She explains to him that the time has come for him to find out the reason for all that had happened so many years ago.

Good book; delivered in one day

Well written, not as surrealistic as most of his other work but the story moves along nicely.
The book was delivered in one day even though I hadn't opted for the one day rush.

It is an coming of age story

This is the first book that I have read which is written by Haruki Murakami and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It has various flavors like metaphysical experiences, sexual fantasies, music and philosophy.

It is an coming of age story of Tsukuru Tazaki who one day is abandoned by his best and only friends. It's about journey of Tsukuru Tazaki to find out the truth and be in peace with his past. Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage mainly discusses about life , rejection and hope to ...

    Essential reading

Being a murukami fan it is always great to read his books. Tsukuru's pilgrimage made me roam around in tokyo and even took me to Finland. This book doesn't have the surreal element of Murakami, but its a beautiful reading.

"The Human heart is a night Bird. Silently waiting for something, and when the time comes, it flies straight towards it"

What can be more beautiful than this at this time, at this particular moment !

    Average

Have been a Murakami fan for very long, but this book just doesn't cut it. Felt more like an average mystery novel, and the patent Murakami mixture of reality and surrealism was missing. I loved most of his previous works so much that I went ahead and pre-ordered it on a month with extremely low pocket money, but this was not worth that much effort. An okay read, but I had way too high expectations after Sputnik Sweetheart, The Elephant Vanishes and A Wild Sheep Chase. Disappointed.
