Coma- A thrilling thriller
Coma is a 1977 book written by Robin Cook , who is renowned to blend medicine and public health into thrillers. Coma is a book that keeps the reader interested until the very end and even thereafter.
In the pages of introduction where the case is gradually set up, the author apparently puts you through an illusion that the reader might have to put in some effort to grasp the jargonized medical terms. But once the case is set up the author gives way to a whole lot of incidents and everything else takes a back seat. The story reveals at it unfolds and introduces various plots and sub-plots that eventually conclude well. Coma, being a classic medical thriller, lives up to the expectations and provides insight into the harsh reality of the noble profession. The way Susan escapes from the Jeffrey Institute , the way she loses her trail leaving her follower in a freezing cubical full of dead bodies, Susanâs intricate relationship with Bellows, take the thriller to a different level altogether so much that you almost feel for the protagonist.
There are some shortcomings like the slackening for about 50 pages but that can be completely attributed to the rush of events that follow and trickles your otherwise steady nerves. There ought to be a mention about the conclusion of the novel. Most thrillers make or break during the conclusions, either they fall flat or reach their summit. Coma belongs to the latter category. All the sub plots fall into place .Your pulse strengthens even while you read the last page. It excites tremendously and lingers on your mind even after the last word is read.
