About Bill Watterson
Bill Watterson II (born July 5, 1958) is an American cartoonist and the author of Calvin and Hobbes.
Some of his other popular books include, The Essential Calvin and Hobbes: A Calvin and Hobbes Treasury, Calvin & Hobbes Scientific Progress Goes "Boink", The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book, and The Indispensable Calvin And Hobbes: A Calvin And Hobbes Treasury.
He drew his first cartoon at the age of eight. He spent most of his childhood alone, drawing and cartooning. During his school years this continued, and he drew cartoons for his high school yearbook and newspaper. He discovered comic strips like Krazy Kat, Pogo, and Charles Schulz's Peanuts, which later inspired and influenced his aspiration to become a professional cartoonist. In 1980, Watterson graduated with a B.A. in political science from Kenyon. He was offered a job for a six-month trial period by The Cincinnati Post for drawing political cartoons. In 1988, Watterson was awarded the National Cartoonists Society's Humor Comic Strip Award and in 1986, he was the youngest person in history to receive the Society's Reuben Award. Watterson received the Reuben Award for the second time in 1988. He was a nominee for the third time in 1992.

A selfish 5 odd years old kid, his stuffed tiger and Bill's wild imagination build a world and you just cant escape to marvel at it.
Calvin is someone with whom each one of us can relate. Unusually intelligent for his age Calvin points to some hard facts of life the way even adults cant. And yes his friend/philosopher/guide Hobbes is always around there to add the right lines.
Calvin and Hobbes is not the dumb comic likes others. Undoubtedly one of the most popular and certainly one of the most intelligent comics.
Thank You Bill!
Very few moments in your life you will feel a deep pang of guilt if you pirate the product. This is one of those products - Bill Watterson is a Genuis and Calvin is the most lovable comic character ever. If you download calvin strips online in jpegs or PDFs you will not feel good apart from missing out on the true experience of browsing the book in full resolution.

Let's face it, not all of us have the sensibilities to understand Shakespeare. What can lesser mortals like me do. Here is an option.
I don't think Bill was any less of an artist than the Bard. In a simple comic strip he transcends from simple buffoonery to philosophy to love to even science fiction. Bill's writing is often depressing and sometimes even cynical but he does not present it in the form of a struggling author dying from cancer but with the help of a boy who is creative enough to imagine his tiger coming to life every now and then. And as the bard would say - 'Therein lies the rub'

This is one book; I thought about quite a bit before buying. Yes it is a bit costly, and heavy and after all it is illustrated. So adults around me may make it a joke for few days. And yes when I really got it; it happened. But boy; this books are such joy. At this moment I've just finished 75% of part 1 and I'm loving it. Rather this is my mood lifter. Days when I come back from office and feel down [ for whatever reasons ...], feel like I'm stuck, feel like life is not moving... I sit with this book; read through few pages and voila ... I'm good old cheerful me again. This books is magic in my life. Right now; I'm keeping one of the 3 on my bed beside me; so that I can weak up and read a few pages first each day.
And the best part is; I guess there is no one; who will not say ..."wah; that's me" at some point of this book. Definitely this is entirely not me; but every adult will find Calvin in their childhood for some or other strip. And for those ... who say I'm Calvin in my childhood; I would like to tell them ... "Read it all; and you'll also know how your parents felt about you :D"
Now about the book. The pages, binding, presentation and decoration; all are spot on; thought it is "printed and packed in China". And the total set is 6.1 KG and pretty big in size. So just think twice if you have space constraint; because you really need a good rack to keep it.
So the verdict is, get it. If you don't have a book rack, buy it and then get the book, if you feel this is for kids only, please get it and your opinion will change. It is truly a collector's edition!!!
