The Complete Works Of Khalil Gibran (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.214

A must have for all Khalil Gibran admirers, The Complete Works of Khalil Gibran gives readers an insight into the famed author’s philosophy vis-a-vis religion and life.

The Complete Works of Khalil Gibran includes 12 books between the covers. Khalil Gibran was deeply influenced by Christianity and spiritualism, and this is reflected in each of the books included in the collection.

Some of the books from this collection are The Prophet, Sand and Foam, The Wanderer, Nymphs of the Valley, Broken Wings, Spirits Rebellious, The Forerunner, The Madman, and Tears and Laughter.

The Prophet is one of the most admired works of Khalil Gibran. Written in verse, the book tells the story of a prophet Almustafa, who plans to return home after spending 12 years in a foreign city. But on his way to the boat, he is stopped by a group of people, and he speaks to them about life, love, crime, joy, and punishment. Since its publication in 1923, this book has been translated into 40 languages.

The Madman, The Forerunner, and Sand and Foam again draw heavily on the Lebanese-American author’s eastern roots. The books contain a fine mix of parables and aphorisms, and are set in a world where animals talk, the wind sings, and hermits and kings play an important role.

Broken Wings is a small book that tells readers about Gibran’s first love. The poet is deeply in love with Selma, the daughter of his friend’s father. His love is all encompassing, and Selma reciprocates his feelings. However, circumstances force them to stay apart, and Selma refuses to take the final step and elope with the author. She marries somebody else and Broken Wings goes on to describe Gibran’s anguish and pain.

In Tears of Laughter, Gibran examines the reason behind man’s existence and the concept of destiny. Written when he was barely 20 years old, the book features a prose-poetry style of writing.

About the Author
Khalil Gibran
is a popular writer, artist, poet, sculptor, and philosopher, who is well-known for being a political and literary rebel.

Other works of his include Lazarus And His Beloved, The Earth Gods, and The Garden Of The Prophet.

When he first began writing, he used Arabic as his language of expression. With time, he started writing in English. His work was deeply influenced by Christianity and his books are notable for their thoughts on spiritualism.

Born in 1883 in Lebanon, Khalil Gibran emigrated to the United States with his mother and siblings, leaving behind a life of poverty and humiliation. Life was tough for the family in the United States, but Khalil Gibran was properly schooled, something that was denied to him in Lebanon. His teachers recognised his talent in art, and he was sent to an art school. His first art exhibition was held in 1904. Gibran died in the year 1931, succumbing to tuberculosis and cirrhosis of the liver. He has memorials in Washington D.C. and Boston, and the Gibran Museum has been erected in his honor in Lebanon.
