Great book but......

This is the first time I read a book by Rashmi Bansal as I have not yet read her book Stay Hungry Stay Foolish.

My belief is that an entrepreneur could come out from any profession, so why the author has an over ephasized angst against MBAs in particular.

Almost all the success stories are censored for the setbacks and breathtaking hurdles that the young entrepreneurs might have faced. I am not referering to the part-of-the-game kind of hurdles but those usually faced at the time of inception while breaking the proverbial glass ceiling.

I also strongly feel that all the stories are suggestive of a "one man show" (or woman so to speak). The author should also have covered the unbiased opinion of their close aides without whom the entrepreneur could not have established his/ her dream.

Taken from Steve Jobs' lecture. These entrepreneurs didnt have much idea where they will reach but were consistent and looking back now can connect the dots.

The book takes you through the lives of 20 non-MBA entrepreneurs from varying backgrounds with a few rags to riches stories. The stories of Dosa Plaza,VETA,Oriental cuisines etc are especially exciting as the entrpreneurs started with nothing and had their own ways of dealing with complex situations.
I enjoyed it more than her other book "stay hungry stay foolish". Those MBAs from IIM-A already had a good network and also the "MBA knowledge" this book the individuals do not have those advantages ...still they manage - that part is what makes this book more interesting.
Another thing is the language used....usual hindi and hinglish phrases... in the Dosa Plaza story the whole of "Advice to entrepreneurs" is in SouthIndian-Hindi.
Out of Rashmi Bansal's three books - this one is the most interesting.

Good.. but undone by the book binding

Both the books are easy to read, and quite inspirational too.. a welcome change from the PR-heavy Infosys stories that have been doing their rounds for too long now.. a decade ago, if it was Gita Piramal, we have Rashmi Bansal now. May her tribe increase...

But the book's production quality is a major letdown.. after one read, the pages come unstuck from the paperback cover. Ms. Bansal's autographed work deserves to be treated with greater respect, and is not destined to end up as a wrapper for beachside peanuts or parshad after one read:-)

Publisher, please note this!

must read before you go ahead and start a business to make a difference....

After going through 'Stay Hungry-Stay Foolish', this book has broken the myth that only MBA's can do good business. One thing I found common in all the stories was the eagerness to do something different & common at the same time, with a revolutionary idea, which changed the complete description of the particular business these people are doing. Above all, they inspire.
A must read for anyone and everyone who wishes to get into some sort of business to make a difference.

On connecting the dots...

Here are the dots on the book:
1. Clear presentation
2. Demonstrates that a strong will can overcome most hurdles
3. Inspires confidence
4. Breaks mthys and pessimism that only "lucky", "Already rich" and "crooked ways" bring prosperity.
5. Easy and fun to read - Since the contents are arranged in a series of short chapters.
6. its different from most other books that advice (not that all advice is bad), in the sense that it describes/presents true stories.
7. Read this and refresh your mind with thoughts of possibilities, inspiration, prosperity and energy.
8.CONS of book: This is not a book of facts. It's true stories. For gods sake don't go around trying to find faults. It's like saying, the elephant is great but sadly, does not have wings. So if you want facts and data, do your own research. Books are meant to give you ideas not sit and teach you every thing.

Connect the above dots and decide on going for this book.

Very Motivating

Being at the brink of completing MTech, I found this book very motivating to think freely in terms of where I want to take my career. The book has covered entrepreneurs from such diverse areas that every chapter is equally interesting and unique!

I found answers to many questions related to entrepreneurship like how long it usually takes to settle a start-up, how to deal with family and peer pressure, is money always the main motive or businesses can be successful with other bottom-lines as well, etc.

The language is very lucid, though it is targeting Indian audience and therefore, contains many Hindi phrases (which will lose their essence if translated).

A wonderful read. Thank you, Rashmi Bansal!

Not upto the mark

I had read author 1st book earlier which I liked. when I see the sequel to that book I picked it up instantly, expecting it to be better than previous one. The book although had some inspiring stories in it but some are very ordinary one, so I feel the author had tried to cut corners in research and time taken to write the book. If she had tried she might have found some more interesting stories in India abt the entrepreneur who have made it really big without much formal training and education.
Overall its a avg book more so if you have read the first one.

Connect the Dots

Really a nice book. I found this work of the author much better than the previous one "Stay hungry Stay foolish". Persons mentioned in this book really struggled a lot to stand where they are now. I liked the chapter on Prince group, Su Kam, Crossword, futuristic techs like Reva cars. I make it a point to read atleast a story in a day to inspire me and to keep the hunger and fire in me.
I would be looking forward for the next book with another set of people with thier inspiring journey.
