This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Cooperative Information Agents, CIA 2004, held in Erfurt, Germany, in September 2004.

The 18 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on information agents and p2p computing, issues of agent communication, recommender agents, information agents and mobile computing, industrial applications, and cooperation in open environments.
