Corporate Atyaachaar : The Comical Journey Of An Office Doormat

Most of us are employees throughout life and some of us become "bosses" along the way to unsuspecting team members. One's first boss often determines one's world view and approach to working life. Therefore one can very well sympathise with the "hero" of this tale. We have all "been there, done that"!

I do not think any of the characters have been given actual names, which I feel is a strength, since it is so easy otherwise to stereotype people by their names and locations. HBS could be a staid Tamilian or a boisterous Punjabi. The reader is allowed to guess. HBS is a generic cranky boss.

I read most of the book with a grin on my face, there were some moments of pure zaniness which deserve an LOL review. There should have been more RFLMAO moments. Having said that, the book is definitely worth a read. College libraries should stock it so that graduating students get an idea of the real world.

Maybe there will be a CA Part 2. Maybe our hero can acquire a girlfriend/wife and have to cope with family pressures, oscillating markets and crazy bosses!

A month or so ago, I had either received a tweet or mail from Abhay Nagarajan, wondering if I had read the above mentioned book.

Frankly, it was of no interest to me and had forgotten, till last week, looking for a book on flipkart saw the book and price (Rs. 100/-) ordered it along with Witness the Night by Kishwar Desai The Premier Murder League by Geeta Sunder.

Aha, well back to the afore mentioned book. A sort of poor @sidin about investment counselor from two tier B school and his boss, with too much jargon and extremely thin story line, trying to encash on the so called 'market melt down'

Personally, I think it should have had a better story line, with less jargon and more humane touch.

Also for me the fact, that everyone wants to write, manage to write publish is 'courage to follow your dreams and realise them' is cheers time.

And hey, it may probably work for that age group, B school people, with a great price point.

The funky title and cover made me buy the fiction. I read first three pages at the book-store only and then finsihed it in two days.
The HBS and his family and yeah extended family in the office ...all of them are awesome. The description of financial terms helps non-finance persons to grasp the story easily. The flow and comic sense in common characters make the whole reading joyous. It reminds me of my MBA-days and internship project. Its a good mix of humour and real life learnings.
A product worth buying for Finance guys and those who really want to read something more empirical as well as fictitious.

Wonderfully written must read book for all the young guns who are going to enter the corporate world and the not so old ones who are already there or have gone out...
I really like the way novel has been moved through out...it's quite impressive that how the author had taken care in mentioning the minute details plus the way each chapter has been named...

This is a sweet book that doesn't take itself too seriously. No lessons. No morals. Every chapter is amusing. On occasions, I feel like smacking the protagonist for not speaking his mind. He is a true doormat. I'm a very outgoing person so on occasions I found it hard to empathize with the protagonist. That is a small issue. Like another reviewer I read this on a 6:30 am flight to Delhi. Good price.

Anyway, I think this will be made into a movie some day. Very Chetan Bhagat-like.

Does Abhay have other ideas up his sleeve? What will his second book be like?
