I have been using this one since the last 6 months and haven't faced any issues. The PSU package reeks quality, even though this is the base series of corsair(builder series). All necessary components to install this PSU in the PC cabinet are there in the box.
There are many good reviews for this model on the net so i won't go into that detail.
The one thing to look for when buying a PSU is the +12V current output. The higher the better. The cheap PSU's that come packaged with most systems and cabinets will have a low current rating on the +12 V rail. These have to be avoided as this rail powers your CPU and PCI express graphics card, the two most power hungry components in todays PC's. I would recommend going in for a single 12V rail for less than 500watt PSU's.
To find out how many amps you need on the +12V rail do the following - Add up the maximum wattage of your CPU and graphics card and divide that number by 12. Add 5 more amps to this number (for drives and fans) and you get what you need at a minimum. Also take into account any upgrades (CPU or graphics card) that you may do in the near future.
These PSUs have Active PFC are of good quality, no doubt, but there is an annoying problem which arises because of the UPS used. I learnt about this after two years of experience.
(what follows may be a bit too technical)
I had a Cooler Master Real power Pro 460W Power supply (bought in 2009 Dec) with Active PFC, and the UPS used was a Numeric 600VA normal UPS which supplies a MODIFIED SINE WAVE (stepped sine) during power outage. Most cheap UPSs give a Stepped sine wave. This may cause the power supply to SHUT-OFF immediately as soon as the mains power goes off, or some annoying humming sound is present. Some users say this may even damage the PSU. You will read this in many website forums (like tomshardware) I experienced this for 2 years and recently my PSU just failed with sparks coming every time you switch it on.
I don't know whether this was a sudden damage due to a power surge (I had no spike guard) or a gradual damage due to the stepped sine wave from the UPS. Has anyone experienced this? Kindly discuss. I am reluctant to buy another PSU with Active PFC, because I am not sure what damaged my PSU.
Some users in tech forums say: the solution is "One must have one of the more expensive UPS models with pure sinewave output." How true is this?
On arrival last week, I found that the casing on one side was bent. But anyway I installed it in my cabinet without any problem and have to admit that it is indeed a good a PSU for an entry level gaming rig.
PROS:
1. Sturdy built quality for an entry level PSU.
2. The fan is really silent on no load and has good exhaust capability, have noticed my CPU/GPU temperatures under normal load got decreased by 5-6 degrees, immediately after installing it.
3. Sleeved neat cables with reasonable length.
Cons:
1. The plug of the mains power cable is not compatible with normal Indian sockets. Just a STAR less for this.
2. I hear a faint whining sound from it after playing games for about 2-3 hours.
In summary, anyone having single GPU setup with GT440 or like and with a not so power-hungry CPU, should not think of any better power solution than this.
-Anupom.
I bought it 10days back. Working fine with no issues. Quality is good(Thick and heavy metal). Cables comes with tick cover.
6 SATA power pins,
3 legacy power pins,
2 motherboard power connectors(24+8 pins).
One PCIe X16 power connector.
Nicely sat in my coolmaster elite 311plus cabinet with bottom fan.(fan is silent).
430 wattage is enough for mid range PCs(If you are not using 2 Graphic cards with SLI or CrossFire technologies or not over clocking).
I am using it with 125wattage processor and midrange Radeon graphics card. Working smoothly.
Finally thanks to flipkart for their quick delivery, nice packing and accurate pricing.
I Got this PSU some days back from flipkart and i must say its great.
Pros :
1. Value for money, its difficult to get a 80+ certified PSU at this price.
2. Very silent, it cant even be heard.. even after long hours of gaming there is no screeching or whatsoever.
3. Can Handle a modern GPUs with ease.. this will be more than enough for anything up to a HD 6870 or a GTX 560 (im using it with a 560)
4. Good quality nylon braided cables.
5. While people complain the PSU if often DOA, i did not have any such problems, the PSU was packaged properly and works great.
6. Corsiar has great customer support.
7. good aesthetics, its good a nice black mat finish and looks good.
Cons :
1. Only 3 molex connectors.. so connecting of additional fans is limited.
2. Only one PCIE Connector, while this PSU is capable of handling a 560, there is a need to power the other 6 Pin connector through the molex adapter..
3. Packaging is pretty simple.
4. Did not get the corsair badge with it.
Overall its a really good PSU and i highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for quality PSU in around 2.5k budget.
Cheers.
