My own opinion

This book is rather long, and I believe that may be one of the reasons that previous reviews have valued it so poorly. If so, then a true estimate of its worth should come from someone who is not deterred by this alone. It is currently my favorite book. Such beautiful writing and excellent story telling is few and far between. I am not trying to help sell the book, but I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed it with each read.

among the all time best

"If your lot is cast among fools, it is essential to study folly", so says Abbe Faria to the young, unfortunate and wrongly imprisoned Dantes and sets him on his way to becoming the Count of Monte Cristo. What follows is almost 1000 pages of how the Count settles scores with his wicked antagonists (who in the course of 20 years have risen to be even more dangerously powerful and have totally forgotten him) set in the post Napoleonic France.
Almost 1000 pages, but doesn't feel heavy. You'd feel you aren't reading a classic, but you are in fact reading something that started the revenge genre. If you feel you have read the story before that's because so many authors have been inspired by this Dumas novel. Make no mistake, every inch of the book is a classic. I bought the Wordsworth's classics edition costing around Rs. 125. Now, for buying this book, you don't need to be as rich as the Count. Go ahead and click the buy button and give yourself a break from Dan Brown and co.

p.s. never read the intro of any classic edition before finishing the book.

aish thinks

this book is written by one of the most powerful writers of French novel corpus, alexander dumas. along with the three musketeers this present work is regarded as his masterpiece. the present one is an original and unabridged version. the book is long, the language is archaic but beautiful, complicated but thoughtful. the cost of the book is cheap but the quality is superb. i received this book in a superb package. but want to add a a last thing: this book is not meant for normal people,; if someone is willing to know something, love the language and literature then its a must buy for them. otherwise don't

A must read

Dumas at his best..... such depths of human emotions explained with such flow that one can t help but fathom the great man Dumas must have been. A must read for every guy who has ever set his eye on a novel or a classic.

This review is for girl in boredom...I'm sorry that you hated this book, its actually one of my favorites and its well worth the money to spend to read, because its got a great story and great characters...did you even read more than two pages? So youre wrong when you say "this book isnt even worth 25 cents" because thats definitely not true. You could say that about a lot of other classics like Moby Dick but not for this one
