Undeniably one of the most played game of all time, Counter Strike is extremely popular among online hardcore gamers. Counter Strike : Source is the latest First-person shooter by Valve Corporation, the designers and coders for the original Counter Strike series of games.

Source is a whole new remake of the classic Counter Strike game using the all new Source game engine. The game is also the very first video game to use this engine. The next game to use the Source engine was Half-Life 2, the sequel to Half-Life, the game from which Counter Strike had its origin.

Counter Strike initially started out as a small Mod of Half-Life with a limited Player base of a few hundred. However, with its versatile gameplay and easy portability across systems, it quickly gained popularity and widespread fame. The popularity grew so much that Counter Strike is now a mainstay in most professional gaming tournaments and other noted competitions around the world.

Counter Strike : Source involves the same principles as it predecessors did. There are two teams playing Terrorists and Anti-Terrorists. The terrorists are in charge of planting bombs and taking hostages and this task has a certain amount of time allotted to it. The Anti-Terrorists have to diffuse bombs and rescue hostages. The game has no set storyline as it is mainly a multiplayer oriented game with Single player missions with Bots and which mirror the multiplayer game modes.

There are a certain number of rounds that need to be completed by both teams and each round is won by completing the objective or by eliminating all the members of the opposite team. The game is completely team oriented and it encourages the player to rely on team members for support and backup if and when necessary. The main aim of every map is to accomplish a set of tasks unique to each of them and win the maximum number of rounds than the opposing team.

Unlike other first-person shooters where players spawn after being shot dead, in Counter Strike Source you have to wait till the end of the round before respawning. This adds to the realism of the game and brings in better gameplay and fairness to the matches. The PC game Counter Strike : Source has a PEGI rating of 16 for violence and gun battles.
