Cowon D2+ 4 GB Video MP3 Player

Kudos again to Flipkart for superb service as always.
Cowon PMP's are prized the world over by audiophiles and casual music lovers alike. I own a host of other players including Sony and Creative, but each of the Cowon products have always sounded best in class. The D2+ is no exception\
Here's why:
1. Stellar sound (best if a good set of earphones are used, i used a new set of Cowon CE1's), sound beats any other player by a margin esp the Apple Ipods.
2. SD slot which expands up to 32Gb
3. Good build quality
4. Unrivaled battery life

What could have been better:
1. Interface takes time to get used to
2. Tough to use fingers, stylus dependent sometimes
3. No AAC support
4. Sub Par bundled earphones

Summary: No reason to be seemingly crazy after Apple, when Cowon or even other brands like Sony tend to blow Ipods away in sound.
Any Cowon player is normally a class beater, this one is a class trend setter.
It costs a mere 1000 more than Sony's entry level, but one glance at its feature set and user reviews will show you why many hold Cowon as long time audiophile's choice.

I bought this 2 years back for 5.5k. I did a fair amount of research before buying it. I must say I didn't go wrong with my purchase.

Pros :
* Phenomenal sound quality ( I have tried several expensive earphones like DiddyBeats, EX-35LP, SHE-9500,EX-57LP, XB-300, EP-630 and many others )

* Tons of features for the price ( TV-Out, text reader, Video Player, Notepad, Scientific Calculator, Flash Games, Radio, Voice recording etc etc)

* Third party firmwares like Rockbox can increase this device's capability to a great extend. This firmware enables D2+ to play almost any audio format you can think of. May be the ones u havent even heard of :-P

* Amazing battery stamina. This thing comes with a 1500mAh LiPo battery that is rated to give a continuous music playback of 52 hours.

* Super powerful amplifier with 72mW power output for 16 ohm headphones. Can drive 18 Ohm, 24 Ohm and even 32Ohm earphones without any problem. Just make sure you dont't blow your ear drums. Just kidding with the last sentence.

* 32GB expandable storage. Can accept 32GB SD cards and even a microSD if used with a microSD to SD adapter which are very common today.

No end to its possibilities if u ask me. There are some serious group of enthusiasts (Rockbox Team) working behind this piece of hardware and thanks to them.... I discovered heaven on earth with my D2+.

Cons :

* Screen size should have been better. May be a 3" would have done a lot better. Can't ask more for this price point and that too considering the fact that 3" displays were not that cheap back in 2009.

* Should have included dictionary and flash themes compatibility in firmware verision 2.xx like in 3.xx

* Should have given JetEffect 3.0 for D2+ considering the fact that this legend along with O2 made Cowon world famous.

* Should have included the charger in the box and a better pair of earphones. Believe me this baby is far more capable than what you hear through the bundled earphones.

Absolute value for money. Awesome piece of hardware if u plan on throwing in big money to buy cool earphones like Klipsch Image S4, Monster Turbine, Klipsch Image X10 etc.If you are a bass head you will discover bass like never before. Must learn to customize EQ and other settings that require some basic knowledge about sound if you want to tingle your senses to the max.

I did lot of research before going for this player. Read lots of reviews from internet and did Audition with multiple mp3 players within my friends circle. Compared with players which comes under 15k price tag.If you want high quality audio from mp3 which is near to Audio CD sound quality, then D2+ is the answer for you. Also don't forget to get a good pair of ear phones.
I used the following for my tests.
mp3 files: 320kbps CBR 44Khz converted from Audio CDs.
Ear phones: Yamaha, EPH-20.
Pros:
Best VFM product.
Ultimate sound quality. Can be compared with 10k plus players.
Lots of sound processing settings.
Flat audio setting can be used while connecting to External power amplifiers/speakers.
Very good battery backup.
SD card upto 32 GB can be used to extend memory capacity.
Relatively fast boot up time.
In flat audio settings bass is so warm and natural. highs are pleasant for ears. "BBE+" enhances treble a lot, makes people so addict to this player. "Mach3Bass" gives more punch to beats.
Cons:
The player is little bulky not a fancy item like ipods.
Blue-white color attracts dirt.
Resistive Touch screen, not as easy as capacitive screens. But manageable.
"BBE+" enhances treble a lot,but also makes treble artificial. Audio CD lovers can easily distinguish the differences.
The ear phones comes with D2+ is of average quality. But a good music lover always goes for something extra, manufactures normally knows this. So don't expect more.
Need some knowledge in setting the sound options, if you just want to hear music, always use flat settings.

I have been using this player since 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. it has superior audio playback with top notch battery life. Sound is crisp and rich, with plenty of bass and treble

i have seen lots of people complaning about touchscreen responce and user interface but let me tell you guys that the responce of this touchscren is preety good, colours are rich and motion is nice and fluid and also the interface is not that bad either, you will not get dissapointed at all.

The build quality of the player is excellent. Only problem is that it doesn't have dedicated music playback controls on the player itself instead of always relying on the touchscreen for control

I got this for just Rs 3999 and its worth every rupee i spent on this but there should have been a charging Adapter, USB-based charging takes lots of time

I got my D2+ 2 days ahead of the specified date, in perfect shape.

Nothing much to talk about the player though, as much has been said before, and it truly deserves all the praises.....excellent player if pure music is your soul's priority .... will never run out of music (quality music) with its 54 hours backup when you're on the go.....will have to invest on a pair of headphones though (high quality) to match its standards (bundled headphones are a waste and sounds bland) ..... worth every penny spent....

1. Was looking for a black or a silver version of this though, which is not available anywhere, but thought Flipkart would be the last resort, but :-(
2. Would like to see more brands like iRiver (Spinn) in Flipkart's inventory or anything else, but iPod.
