Summary Of The Book

The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is a screening test commissioned by the Union Public Service Commission of India. It is a nationwide exam that is intended to recruit potential candidates for various positions in services such as the Indian Forest Services, the Indian Administrative Services, and the Indian Revenue Services. The exams have two phases, a Preliminary and a Main. The Preliminary Exam includes two objective papers that test general studies and knowledge aptitude.

CSAT General Studies For Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2013 is a newly updated and revised version of Tata McGraw-Hill’s previous edition. The type and pattern of questions which appeared on the 2011/2012 examinations were taken into account during this revision. Tata McGraw-Hill has taken care to synchronize their text with the course syllabus and only present relevant theory, with tons of practice material.

The first section addresses English Comprehension, which includes a set of passages with accompanying comprehension questions. The next section deals with Interpersonal Skills/Communication skills, which includes an introductory theory with relevant examples and exercises. This section includes topics like Idioms and Phrases, Sentence Completion, Paragraph Jumbles, and High Frequency Word List. The next section is Logical Reasoning/Analytical Ability, which includes Puzzle and Direction Test, Team Formations, and Quantitative Reasoning. The third section addresses Problem Solving/Decision Making, and the next one is General Mental Ability. This has topics such as Syllogisms, Binary Logic, and Logical Deductions.

Basic Numeracy/Data Interpretation is the sixth section, and it includes mathematical concepts such as Fractions, Percentage, Chain Rule, Trains, Simplification, Data Sufficiency, and Simple Interest. This section also comes equipped with 8 practice papers. The seventh section deals with English Language Comprehension Skills and includes Objective Comprehension, Analogy, and Idioms and Phrases. The eighth section and final chapter includes twenty practice papers with answers. Solved papers from 2011 and 2012 can also be found at the end of the book.
