The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-time (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs. 279

Winner of multiple awards including Book of the Year, Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time tells the story of a 15 year old autistic boy who discovers the body of his neighbour’s dog in the garden, apparently killed by someone, and then sets about trying to solve the crime.

Summary Of The Book

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is set in Swindon, Wiltshire, and is narrated in the first person by its young protagonist, Christopher John Francis Boone, a fifteen year old boy who suffers from a form of autism, and lives with his father, Ed Boone. He mentions that his father once told him that his mother, Judy, had died of a heart attack a couple of years ago.

Christopher’s condition often leaves him with behavioural difficulties. He does, however, remain keenly interested in two things, Mathematics and Sherlock Holmes detective novels.

One day, Christopher makes a gruesome discovery in his neighbour Mrs. Shear’s garden. He finds her pet dog, a black poodle named Wellington, laying dead, with a garden fork stabbed right through him. As the police are called in to investigate the dog’s death, suspicion falls on Christopher.

Christopher takes it upon himself to solve the mystery of the dog’s death. Despite his father’s warnings, ordering him not to interfere with matters not concerning him, he starts off his own investigation, maintaining his notes in a book he calls a murder mystery novel. Although limited by his condition that presents some difficulties interpreting things and people around him, Christopher, in the process of solving this case, meets many people who provide him with information that not only helps him find out who killed the dog, but also uncovers some answers to hidden truths of his own.

Mark Haddon's novel of a young boy’s self-discovery, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, was very well received, and went on to be picked for the coveted Whitbread awards for Book of the Year and Best Novel, as well as the Commonwealth Award and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize.

Fresh, Witty and a new perspective all over!

It was a very good and also informative read, getting the narration from a 15 year old autistic boy.

Though there were some places in the novel, where i found the reasons and explanations a tad lengthy and skipped over some lines and paragraphs. All over the mystery and unfolding of the nov…

Curiously hilarious!

The synopsis of this book interested me and I bought it and so I can say that I got more than what I had thought.I had expected this book to be a mystery like Agatha Christie or Hardy Boys since it talked about a boy playing detective but I was in for a surprise and a welcomed one at that.
This book not only brings us abreast with the complicated yet in a way very simple working of the brain of an autistic child, but it also brings out the true colors of human beings, which by the way we are all familiar with, still affects us in an unwonted manner.
By the time I had finished reading this book

The book is a great read and it covers the mentality and behavior of the central character and the speaker Christopher .

The book a good read and it is not boring at all.

The book is written in such a way that all the events of the books can be picturized and every single detail is described perfectly.

This book is unlike anything I have read, so far...

It had won many awards like WHITBREAD BOOK OF THE YEAR, GUARDIAN CHILDREN'S FICTION PRIZE, BOOK TRUST TEENAGE FICTION AWARD, etc. But the 'children' part troubled me a bit. I was not going to read a children's book. But there something, perhaps the name of the books, which provoked me to read it. So I started it and it was very hard to put the book down...

At first, this book gives the impression of a mystery story. But it is anything but mystery novel.

The novel doesn't follows a particular flow. The story is random and there is nothing p

You laugh and you cry!

a boy suffering from Autism describes behaviors of human beings in unintentional funny ways! Sometimes you laugh and sometimes you pause & think about your own life...a very unusual way of story telling! Worth it!!

The Best of all novels i hav read so far...

I have read many a great novels but this is without a doubt the most intelligent and thought provoking. The author seems seduced by philosophical ideas and mathematics and in order to expel them out he takes shape as an autistic boy.I read on wikipedia that he worked with autistic children and so he designs the mental condition of the autistic narrator perfectly. The book is a perfect read for those who are interested in unconventional ideas.

Deceptive text that blends humour with serious metaphysical issues

I've gone thru this book and found it extremely interesting particularly bcoz of d peculiar thinking of the autistic boy Christopher and the philosophical questions slyly raised thru d story. A math prodigy, Christopher lives in his makebelief world and gets disappointed at every step as he tries to understand d outer world. Christopher thinks in images and this thought process is conveyed thru d numerous photographs, diagrams and charts inserted into the text (which is a postmodern trait). The inefficacy of language to convey our thoughts is highlighted thru various events in d story. Christo

Stumbled on this at a book store, became my Favourite

I discovered this while randomly checking out books at a book store. I liked the book title and the playful cover art.

Randomly read some pages and it was FUN.
The story seemed to have so many tiny details which are usually ignored in most stories. I liked this.

Up until then, I had close to half a dozen books I started reading enthusiastically till about 70% and then dropped. This broke my curse; I finished it in 2-3 days.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

If you're confused, it's not a thriller, investigation, or drama. It's a relaxed, laid-back narration that's full of satisfying details.

Great book!

You would be wrong to presume that this book is meant for children. It's not. There's a lot of quirky things a discerning reader will find (take a look at the page numbers for example). All in all, a very nice read.

Okay, written by a kid!

This book is definitely written in a kiddish style, and the language is also simple and totally understandable to anyone. But, when it comes to reading the story of Christopher, you just can not hold up to it as the story line is normal, and I feel its highly exaggerated by the reviews and the story introduction. Personally I did not find this book very much interesting. Only the dog mystery keeps you going to the end.

I'll rate it 3/5 stars just because the author was able to make you completely feel like a kid is writing this. However, I should mention, the writing involves storytelling wi
