Cutting For Stone-- For the pure pleasure of reading

A moving epic, as an Indian one can relate to many of the characters. The simple language which incorporates real life events keeps the reader spellbound till the end. Abraham Verghese has woven an intricate story of love, longing and loss in a poignant and simple tale.
Brings back the lost pleasure of reading and 'savoring' a real book. The recall and after taste stays for a while.

A masterful story teller who leverages his background in medicine and knowledge of Ethopia

I read the book on recommendation of my brother and I found it wonderful and gripping. The author draws upon his knowledge of growing up in Ethiopia and his professional knowledge of surgery in crafting a wonderful story. A very gripping and enjoyable human interest story

Exceptional book

I was so moved by this book that I bought 20 copies on flip kart and gifted it to the people who inspired me. This book is to this generation what Erich Sehgal's "DOCTORS" was to the previous generation. Hope it inspires many more people to be romantically involved with medicine.

Tragic but still Magic.

This book drowned me emotionally. Its mentally exhausting. So much of loss and pains but still the characters move on. The God fearing Nun, the escapist Doctor Stone, the living in the moment Doctor Ghosh, the no-nonsense Doctor Hema and then the intriguing characters of the twins ShivaMarion. The writer has beautifully carved the characters.
The narration through the eyes of Marion, takes you to a journey spread across three continents over five decades. Every thing falls in ...
