D-Link DSL-2520U ADSL2 Ethernet/USB Combo Router

I already have a WiFi router and was on the lookout to replace Airtel's Beetel 110TC1 modem, that went bad. Airtel obviously washed their hands off and said it was up to me to buy what I want as they no longer replace modems past the 12 initial months.

Eventually, after a bit of back and forth Airtel promised a 40% discount on my tariff over the next 3 months in lieu of their stopping modem replacements.

I picked this up and set it up in 5 minutes flat. Works perfectly without a hitch.

Flipkart delivered the product in about 25 hours from the time I ordered, can't say anything but great things about the no frill modem and Flipkart service.

I was on the lookout for a new DSL router & ran into this by sheer accident. I dismissed this item at first but looking at alternatives, purchased it.

Since the item was in stock, it was delivered in 3 days & I've to say, if you're in the need for a DSL router, go for this one. The packaging is fantastic, the bundle is awesome - it comes with whatever that's required to setup your DSL connection right away - including 2 RJ-11 telephone cables, a RJ-45 cable, a USB cable, heck even comes with a splitter. The installation CD guides you through the setup and contains predefined profiles for most Indian ISPs, so you don't have to do any manual setup.

To repeat, if you need a router, go for this one.

I have been using this modem for 2 days and here is my observation.

BASIC FACTS :

- This is a MODEM which you can use to replace your existing broadband modem. I bought this to replace my ZTE bsnl modem and it works great with the BSNL broadband connection.
- It does not function as a Wireless Router, you will have to purchase an additional wireless router like Neatgear or Linksys and connect it to this modem for wireless connectivity.

ACCESSORIES PROVIDED :

1 RJ-45 cable, 2 RJ-11 cables, Splitter, Adapter, USB cable, installation CD

PROS:

I did see an improvement in speed and stability in my broadband connection

CONS :

The bottom panel of the modem got hot when you there was a constant download for 3-4 hours and the top panel was slightly warm but the connection was stable. Maybe will try to keep the modem at some height so that the heat dissipates properly.

ALTERNATIVES :

I had plans to purchase TP Link Modem which has a 3 year warranty but since that item had 5-6 days of delivery time I zeroed on this product

My existing ADSL Modem was installed by MTNL about 6 years back when I subscribed to Broadband.My earlier connection was of 500KBPS which was subsequentlyupgraded to 2 MBPS.

When I bought a new Lap Top in feb this year I needed WiFi services...my son presented mme a WiFi router WRT54G from Cicso Linksys.I was using lap top in my living room which is abou 30 ft from my bedroom in which modem and router is installed near my desktop PC.The signal was feeble in my three bedroom flat.

I discussed the issue with some vendors....got an advice to replace my modem with the latest one....I zeroed in to this D-Link DSL-2520.....while searching online i come across flipcart...read the reviews...made up my mind and placed order.The delivery came at supersonic speed within 2 days...within next 1 hr i could install it easily simply following the online instructions.

I have been using it since last 10 -12 days...there is tremendous increase in my WiFi signal to cover my entire flat..i am even able to use my lap top through WiFi for viewing full length movies on my LCD TV through HDMI cable.

I am using it continueously for more than 15-16 hours per day witout any loss of signal.I am very satisfied with it.

I price I paid at flipcart was also the lowest on any other online portal or a physical shop.I am very much satisfied with my purchase.

In my whole Network setup, the Airtel's Beetel ADSL Modem was the Achilles' heel and I've been meaning to replace it for quite sometime. Flipping through Flipkart led me to this good modem and I like it.

Setup was a breeze. CD was useless as we no longer have or use CDs/DVDs. But the IP Setup went smoothly - the auto-detect was pretty great except for the MTU for Airtel which wanted a different number.

That's it, all setup with the username/password, disable the DHCP and a manual Google DNS instead of the Airtel supplied one, sealed the setup deal.

I got the delivery this morning (ordered 2 days ago) and done with the setup within minutes. So, I cannot say much about the quality and durability of the modem yet.
