D-Link DSL-2730U Wireless N 150 ADSL2 4-Port Router

First things first - Flipkart delivered this product within 2 days in mint condition. Brilliant service.

PROS:
The primary reason why I went for this modem+router is because the default ADSL modem provided by my ISP had very minimal configuration options for wireless security, filters and and QoS settings, among other things. I was impressed by the admin portal provided by this router, since it has a lot of config options that enable you to set up your network as you wish. The security settings and various filters are good. For those who intend to just bring up their internet connection and get going, the wizard in the CD-ROM provided with this modem is very intuitive and helpful. Not to mention it looks like a fancy piece of hardware with the glossy top body. :)

CONS:
The biggest disappointment for me was the fact that this router provides shockingly low wi-fi range. A room on the other end of my house (about 30 feet away, separated by 2 walls) receives only 50% signal strength !! Heck, even the living room (which is 10 feet away, and separated by 1 wall) receives around 85% signal strength. Although the transmission power in my wireless settings is set to 100%, this is the case. If you're buying this mainly because you need a better wi-fi range, I'd advise you to go for something from Linksys or Netgear.

Its a really great Wireless modem router, it provides all the necessary feature for a home or small office needs to establish a secure and high-speed link to the internet. As you might have figured by now this is an ADSL modem which basically provides you with internet service over a land-line phone.

The modem comes with an Installation CD which makes it very easy to configure the modem without any technical help. Its comes with preset installation for all the leading ADSL ISPs in India which include MTNL, BSNL, AirTel, VSNL, TATA. The CD sets up everything thing for you, all you have to do is select the ISP and put in your username and password and you are online within few minutes. It also helps you assign a password to secure your WiFi connection which is really important. Another really good feature about the modem is it has a WiFi On/Off button, So you have total control over the WiFi access.

I have been using the modem router for a week now over my BSNL connection and no problems . It also has a good WiFi range and no problem whatsoever even in confined closed rooms the strength delivered is decent.

And let me say about the flipkart service. It comes with most perfectly packed state. It was like 4 times the seize of the modem.

The router is very much what it says in the description. Simple, fast and reliable. I have used many routers, but never seen such easy interface. The CD installation works only if the PC is connected by ethernet cable. If you are trying to setup using wifi, then you will have to access the settings via a browser. The setting up via the browser too is just as easy if you are aware of the basic network parameters. I use this router modem with BSNL broadband connection and it works fine. Regarding the range, I don't understand why many people have highlighted the fact that the range is low. Now you can't expect the best of everything when you are paying so less for it. I just want to explain that the range of a router is relative depending on the type of home and the line of sight of the router with the device. For a concrete wall of 30cm, the wifi penetration is about 60 to 70%. Also if the device is not in a straight line from the antenna, there are bound to be losses in signal. I have setup the router in the middle of the house and my plot has dimensions of 30 feet by 60 feet. The wifi coverage is satisfactory (works without disturbance and has 2 out of 5 bars on the icon) which is quiet decent for a medium house. It also has good coverage on the terrace. So I feel that for a medium sized house this is a good router.
Great service from flipkart too. The first router had a damaged antenna and hence I called the customer care to replace it. The new piece arrived after 2 days and I was happy to connect and configure it. As I have said before it too just 5 minutes to configure via the web browser via Wifi.
Positive traits.
1. Easy to configure (via CD as well as via browser )
2. Decent range ( 2 bars at 30 feet range )
3. Compact style with good ventilation.
4. Clear LED notifications.
5. Security settings like MAC filter, WPS and many features.
Negative traits.
1. The firmware needs to be updated.

This is a very good router which provide very stable and fast ADSL Broadband connection both on my BSNL and Airtel Network. Those who complain about the configuration should know a bit of computer/network terminologies, otherwise the set-up a bit harder than other modems. However set-up will not take more than 30 Seconds. Better not to use the Start-up CD.

Pros:
Well designed product form a reputed company. The LED indicators are clear and prominent. Build quality is decent too. Connection is highly stable and tad faster than previous modems used by me.

The best part of the router is the Consistent High Wireless speed throughout its coverage area (which is rather LOW than other product due to its 2dBi antenna). The Signal level is -8 to -30 dBm within 2 meters with effective link speed 65 MBPS (any N150 150 Mbps modem will have throughput of 65 Mbps max, though theoretically it is 150 Mbps). -40 to -60 within 7 meters with speed again 65 Mbps. Then it fall drastically -60 to -70 dBm over the distance and by the presence of concrete/brick walls with speed 52 to 28 Mbps. And the presence of 2-3 walls deteriorates the signal is only to -80 dBm and less; while speed dropping even to5 Mbps. Other modems may provide better coverage but their speed are not so consistence.

In one sentence, it only works in 2BHK- max 3BHK apartment.

Cons:
Poor antenna: only 2 dBi, where as TP-Link/Asus/iBall provides 5 dBi high gain antenna for better coverage. Their signals reach even up by 3 stories. Moreover the antenna is not detachable.
It is primarily a IEEE 802.11b/g with SOME N FEATURES (not full N compatibility though it hardly matters for Indian Home Users).
One thing I fear (though I am not sure) the upload speed is restricted to 1 Mbps only.

In nutshell, if you are home user residing in a 2-3 bhk apartment or planning to install it in open space, this the router for you.

I bought this product three days ago, as usual Flipkart's express delivery was on time. I bought this for my uncle who is looking for a wifi router, he will not compromise on quality & he was ready to spend 3K for Wifi, flipkart was my first preference.. there was a price difference of 200 more than flipkart's price in my surrounding and i directly went for this D-Link.

Installation of Broad band account will be very easy with CD which comes along with router.

1. Router gives a study and decent range of connectivity
2. Looks amazing with small green LED light
3. Four Ethernet LAN Ports
4. Fits good on wall mounting...

Now I am planning to buy one for my use ;-), if you are look for a ADSL + wifi router... this the best one to buy.
