A Dance With Dragons by martin george r r|author;-English-Voyager-Paperback (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.664

A Dance With Dragons is the fifth book from the series, A Song Of Ice And Fire, by George R. R. Martin a.k.a GRRM. This novel falls under the genre of fantasy fiction and takes the story forward from where the previous book, A Feast For Crows, leaves it.

Summary Of The Book

A Dance With Dragons takes the story forward after the previous book, A Feast for Crows, and the book narrates the fate of the Seven Kingdoms that vie for the Iron Throne. In the book, three fully grown dragons, bigger and scarier than ever, sit as the guards of Daenerys Targaryen, the last heir of House Targaryen. She establishes a kingdom in the east, with few friends and many enemies.

In the Wall, Jon Snow becomes the 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. He is plagued by enemies within the Night’s Watch and the Others, who live on the other side of the Wall.

Tyrion Lannister, the dwarf, escapes from King’s Landing after being given a death sentence for murdering King Joffrey, his nephew, although he has been wrongly accused of the same. The book takes readers through what Tyrion does next, as he is torn between rising against his father and pursuing Daenerys.

A Dance With Dragons was published in 2011 and was an instant success. It was immediatly ranked #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list.

Absolutely brilliant

Name of the Series : Song of ice and fire Author : George RR Martin Score : 85/100

Ok. I cant wait to tell you until this series is finished. Imagine you were living in the 50???s when Tolkien was writing LOTR and you had the chance to read it , book by book. Well that???s what is happening now with Song of ice and fire by George RR martin. We are witnessing a classic in progress. Here is an author with the guts to deviate from Tolkiens world of magic and fantasy to give us a gritty realistic view of fantasy. Sadly I didn???t hear of this till the announcement of the TV series. I started...

Sadly I didn???t hear of this till the announcement of the TV series. I started this book and I have promised myself not to watch the TV series until the entire series is finished. A world which is mind bogglingly huge , characters which oscillate from shades of grey to black , the gore of war. If you are used to Sword of shannara and inheritance , you will be in for a rude awakening. Remember , In HP you had that connection with Harry while you were reading it , Imagine if you had that with 15 different characters. There will be death , sex , loads of it. If you are not put off by it kindly grab this at the earliest.

May the winds of winter arrive soon!

After the dull Feast for Crows, this one proves to be a cracker.. By far the largest of the series, but still the book keeps you glued to its pages - with the story line & the finishing almost as good as the storm of swords and the plot that unfolds to be bigger than ever.

But then that is not all. While the plot keeps going good, what's the need of leaving storylines without any ending at all when the book ends? Dany and Jon are the only two major characters whose story-lines reach an ending of sorts.. While Tyrion's sort of just hangs in there.. And Bran, Davos, Arya - what was the...

The fifth in the series and it is the weakest link so far

At the risk of hurting die-hard fans, the fifth book is so far the weekest link the series. The first two books were brilliant, the third and the fourth were very long, very heavy but still packed a lot of interesting developments.

GRRM tried to do some clever split of the books four and five by moving them to two parallel timelines. In essence, the events of book four happen at the same time as this book. Sounds simple? It would be simple enough if we didn't have hundreds of characters, dozens and dozens of viewpoints and so many plot lines.

In the end, the characters do work within the narrative of this book and the prose is as good as ever. But when this book is fit into the overall arc of the series, there is bound to be a bit of a struggle to comprehend all that happens.

Was it worth the wait? NO

Thankfully I only got into this series in 2005, so I only had to wait a few months for A Feast for Crows. But this....it just doesn't seem worth the 6 years it took. Most of the storylines in the book seemed to meander without getting anywhere, and considering how this book was to be a return to three of the arguably most popular characters, I didn't like what most of them were reduced to.
I'm still going to grab the next book the moment it comes out, but I have to say, that same level of anticipation isn't there anymore. Which is a good thing, because I wouldn't expect it to come out befor...

And after reading this, I can't figure how GRRM plans to wrap up his saga in just 2 books.

gripping.....

Well if you have read the previous five book of the series...you feel.an urge to finish these book to know the fate of your favourite characters...
The book takes a long time to get interesting though...somehow the pacing of the book is not as fast as the previous books by Martin. I felt the story dragging itself..but in the end it placed itself nicely for the last two books...
Overall you will be satisfied to some extent after reading the book...one last thought ..dont get too attached to the characters..otherwise you will find yourself shellshocked...

Got What I Saw! Perfecto!!!

I was looking for this book and got it here at a great price with discount. Its PAPERBACK. Note that. Page quality is good. It is completely readable and the story is great. Buy this at a bargain rather than the Hardcover copy which costs approx 6 times of this. The rest is upto you. To sum it up... (View complete review)
