After eight years of marriage, the lives of Marty and Carolyn were torn to shreds by carelessness and Marty's selfish choices. He was to blame for a hit-and-run accident that took place on a lonely country road and claimed the life of a pedestrian. His blood alcohol level would surely exceed the legal limit and he refused to make a police report because of his fear of a jail sentence.
