Dare To Do! For The New Generation is a revealing autobiography of India’s first and highest ranking woman police officer. In the book, Kiran Bedi shares her experiences as a police officer, and her achievements as a social worker.
Summary Of The Book
Dare To Do! For The New Generation is an insight into the life of a police officer, who strove to introduce a Gandhian method of policing in a country overrun with corruption and chained down due to bureaucracy. She laid utmost emphasis on dedication, compassion, innovation, and willpower. In her autobiographical book, Dare To Do! For The New Generation, Kiran Bedi aims to motivate and inspire the new generation to live a fearless life, regardless of the circumstances they find themselves in.
Kiran Bedi had to face the ire of bureaucrats and politicians alike, on many occasions in the line of her duty. Daring to remain creative even in the most adverse situations, she managed to make a difference wherever she went, be it policing, prison management or empowering communities through her two non-profit organizations.
This autobiography is not just about Kiran Bedi coping with the various challenges she faced while doing her duty as a police officer. It also talks about living a worthwhile and meaningful life. The book emphasizes the importance of virtues such as dedication, honesty, commitment, and diligence for a successful life, and insists that when faced with challenges, one must choose the right path, as there are no shortcuts in life. The book also includes a very relevant chapter that throws light on how most women disempower themselves due to situations that they themselves create.
Dare To Do! For The New Generation narrates many inspiring stories about Kiran Bedi’s struggles in a patriarchal society. To illustrate the ideas of the book, she cites many of her own examples, such as her tenure as the traffic in-charge in Delhi in the 1980s. Kiran fearlessly stood up for her colleague who was facing flak from the upper crust for towing away Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s car for illegal parking.
