When the city of Gotham is shrouded by darkness and all things evil prevail, a hero from the depths rises to become its saviour, the Batman. Directed by the cinematic innovator Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight trilogy chronicles the life of Bruce Wayne, an intelligent and handsome billionaire, who as a child witnessed the brutal deaths of his parents which he blames himself for. To absolve himself from the dire tragedy of his life he takes on the form of his fear, the bat, and petrifies his enemies and fights crime as the Batman. Batman Begins, which was released in 2005, was the first film release of this series. This film sees Bruce Wayne become more skilled in combat and stealth and uncover a purpose for himself as he learns a lot under the guidance of Ra’s al Ghul whom he eventually confronts to protect his city. The Dark Knight witnesses the arrival of a hysterical maniac and diabolical mastermind, the Joker. The Batman has to once again defend Gotham from an incarnation of madness, the Joker, who wishes to simply see the whole world burn. The third and final installment in this series, The Dark Knight Rises, follows Batman’s struggle to confront his inner demons and external pains as he confronts Bane, an insidious foe. Once again Batman attempts to overcome and rise up to save his beloved city.
