Delhi Belly (Movie, DVD) Price: Rs.399

The film revolves around three room-mates, Tashi Malhotra (Imran Khan), Nitin Beri (Kunaal Roy Kapur) and Arup (Vir Das) leading an unkempt and debt-ridden life. Tashi's girlfriend Sonia (Shenaz Treasurywala) agrees to deliver a package for Vladimir Dragunsky (Kim Bodnia). Sonia then asks Tashi to deliver the package. Tashi, in turn, asks Nitin to do so. But Nitin is unable to do so as he is experiencing 'Delhi Belly'. The Package keeps floating around and is finally handed to the recipient, a gangster named Somayajulu (Vijay Raaz) by Arup. Apart from the package, Arup also has to deliver another package which contains Nitin's stool sample to Nitin's doctor. He mixes up the two which makes Somayajulu furious and he starts the investigation by interrogating Vladimir. Meanwhile Nitin manages to photograph his landlord with a prostitute. So he sends a parcel to his landlord which contains a copy of the photographs. Sonia is with Tashi when his co-journalist Menaka (Poorna Jagannathan) calls him for an important work. When he reaches the place he realizes that it is just a party and Menaka had called him just to have fun. Menaka's ex-husband Rajiv has an altercation with Tashi and hits him on the eye. Tashi retaliates and knocks Rajiv out. As Tashi and Menaka leave they are chased by furious Rajiv and his friends. Tashi and Menaka manage to barely escape.

DB: The Asli Dirty Picture!

I loved Delhi Belly!
Unlike the colourful and animated Band Baaja Baraati which showcased our Capital city enchantingly, Delhi Belly is a film that could well be Delhi Tourism Board’s worst nightmare.
Whereas BBB made you want to take a flight to Delhi after its engaging portrayal of its day-to-day life, this one will make you strike Delhi off your Fifty Cities To Visit Before You Die list.
Permanently.
Only Amir Khan could have pulled this off.
It’s vulgar & offensive.
There’s no social message unlike Amir’s previous films.
But it’s also entertaining.
Very, very entertaining: make no mistake.
In fact the reason I did not post this earlier was because I was trying to post a comment that would not involve any inappropriate language, as per FlipKart’s guidelines.:-)
And every time I tried to post a review: Flipkart reprimanded me so I had to revise and re-revise what I wrote multiple times.
How can one review such a film without using any profanities? :-(
DB is not a family film with a mention of an often used English swear word 87 times in the film.
There are no uncovered scenes but many suggestive gestures and bigoted language.
Having said that it works (very well) at a certain level and it’s a film that mature audiences will love (but will probably decline to admit) and the 20s/30s crowd (the films target audience) will also adore (but will admit to it.)
It’s a first in its genre and that’s why it needs to be seen.
Interestingly, Kiran Rao, Amir’s wife and Dhobi Ghats’s director is shown fleetingly in an Auto Rickshaw after the jewellery robbing scene behind the red car.
The director Abhinay Deo’s first film Game (produced by Farhan Khan) was a polished whodunit but an un-deservedly commercial flop.
The somewhat frenzied activities of DB are somehow vigilantly interwoven & all loose ends are painstakingly but convincingly tied up at the end.
The amusing script has been written by Los Angelis based Akshit Verma who took more then 3 years to write the story, which was read by Kiran Rao who asked Amir Khan to produce it.
Watch out for the script writer’s name along with Amir Khan in a film poster which is a tribute to the daft but highly engaging pelvic thrusts of Mithun Chakroverty from the eighties…
The kahaani (yes, there is one) is just an excuse to show crudity, a rehash of the archetypal story of parcels with different contents exchanged told in a not-so-archetypal manner.
Imraan Khan plays a journalist as one of the three roommates (along with a photographer Kunal Roy Kapoor: interestingly Amir Khan wanted to play this role but could not as it involved being slightly obese-and Vir Das as the 3rd roommate.)
Imraan’s girlfriend an airhostess played by Shenaz Treasury-remember her in Ishq Vishq?-is asked to deliver a parcel to a Russian Vladimir (played very convincingly by Kim Bodnia from Denmark).
The parcel in a credible twist changes with a parcel containing the stool samples of Kunal who suffers from a Delhi Belly after eating from a road side vendor.
This scene how he acquires it is riotous with the vendor scratching in all the wrong places before serving the chicken.
Not un-expectedly the parcel mix-up results in mayhem and its all about the mob whose king pin (Vijay Raj) kidnaps the girlfriend to get back the parcel.
There are seemingly unnecessary subplots but they blend in seamlessly:
The films lighter moments come from smaller episodes like the interview with a model, the caving of the dance floor, Menaka’s jealous ex-husband and the tactics of the mob.
Those who saw the film at a cinema and were disappointed of the partial songs picturisation- the films main strength- will be pleased to know that full videos of the songs have been included in the DVD and are worth the price of the DVD itself.
The audio is expectedly world class considering it’s mainly conversational & sometimes especially in the street scenes one can close ones eyes and the setting can be felt through all the speakers especially the surrounds.
Can’t wait to experience the Blu ray in surround sound.
Recommended.
Strongly.

Awesome Movie. Great DVD.

I don't think I have to say anything about this movie. It's simply great fun and one of the best bollywood movies of the decade. Coming to the DVD, oh how I wish every DVD would come out with a jewel case! The extra features are pretty good. But I was hoping for a blooper reel or making of feature which was not there. But even then I'm very happy with. A great edition to your personal collection.

New generation Movie

Amazing Movie - Very natural and casual acting. Fast and interesting story. The director must have worked hard to make it real good in flow.

One should definitely watch this one.
