In 1911, British King George V?s desire to be crowned as the Emperor of India saw thirty sleepy villages of Delhi transform into a tented city with all modern amenities for the stay of the British royal couple, Indian maharajas, rajas, and top British officials. King George V became the first reigning monarch to visit Britain?s most coveted colony, India. One million pound sterling was spent in 1911 to house 25,000 people at a Durbar that became well known for the announcement of the transfer of capital to Delhi.

Delhi Durbar 1911: tracks a period which is lost to most Indians....A very GOOD READ

The book is informative and the flow of the writing lucid. It makes compelling reading and makes you wonder as to why we as a nation could not carry forward a legacy that was set only a 100 yrs back. The photographs are riveting and speak for the grand scale at which the coronation took place.
A good read and recommended for all libraries.

An amazing book

Very, very well written. Finds pride of place in my personal library . The attention to detail and the lucid writing style go down well with the reader being drawn into the timeline of the early 20 th century.
