Tony Hsieh founded and headed the online shoe and clothing site In 2009, it was acquired by Amazon, a deal that allowed Tony Hsieh to make around $214 million. In 2010, he came out with his book, Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose.

This book is a chronicle of Tony Hsieh’s entrepreneurial career. It notes how his business philosophy led to most of his business ventures becoming enormously successful. The book is divided into three sections: Profits, Profits and Passion, and Profits, Passion and Purpose.

The book highlights how attained the heights of success. Tony Hsieh lets the reader know about the mistakes that he made during his entrepreneurial career and how these can be avoided with the right approach.


The book highlights the importance of attaining the right balance between profits and happiness in both business as well as personal life. Hsieh states that the way to reach this balance is by ensuring that the brand is not just enduring but has the power to win over the loyalty of both customers and employees. Tony Hsieh emphasises that the aim should be to develop a business that helps in defining inspiration and happiness.

The book hit the No. 1 slot on the New York Times bestseller list and remained there for 27 consecutive weeks. It was profiled in leading publications like The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. It remained for nine weeks on the USA bestseller list and was listed among Amazon’s Top 10 books for two months.

Delivering Happiness:A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose was publicised by the author in an extremely innovative manner. He gave away free copies of the book to bloggers in exchange for a review. He also partnered with the Livestrong foundation and used the book to raise money for cancer care.

About Tony Hsieh

Tony Hsieh is an entrepreneur, who is widely known for being the CEO of

Hseih has also co-authored books such as Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow and A Complaint Is a Gift: Recovering Customer Loyalty When Things Go Wrong.

He graduated from Harvard University in Computer Science. His first job was while he was still at Harvard, and he sold pizzas at Quincy House Grill. He started his professional career at Oracle, but soon got tired of the corporate environment. Hsieh then quit to start LinkExchange, an advertising network. Very good read.

Author shares his experiences in his Ups and Downs in the path to his success.
There is a lot to take from his experience for the new entrepruner blood.
Results don't come over night. Every body needs to work hard to build and maintain the online brand.

Excellent Book. Must read for anyone working or trying to understand e-commerce industry.

This book is a fantastic read for anyone trying to understand the breadth and depth of e-commerce business. The book would help entrepreneurs get some suggestions on how to build company culture and why it is important.

This is the 1st choice on book I made without any recommendation from anybody & it turned out WoW! & awesome.
Before reading this book I was under the great belief that there is nothing called "Business Ethics" in Business, but the ideologies of Tony actually changed my entire mindset!
And yes! business can be so transparent & so pure creating WoW culture, delivering not just products but Happiness through Surprises !

Zappos is my favorite company of all time. It's customer service was exemplary. This book gives a nice peek into the zappos culture right from the horse's mouth. There are so many inspirational stories. Enjoyed reading this thoroughly.

An absolute must read!!!

I loved each and every page of this book. Overall, I can confidently say that this book made me a better human being.

If you are an entrepreneur or looking at building an organization, there is no way you can miss this book. It talks about the level of passion which goes behind building a company and what it takes. One one hand its inspirational and on the other hand its very practical and will give you loads of ideas which you can actually look at implementing in your organization, to make it a better place.
