It is a music that cannot be labeled, categorized or be placed into a neatly boxed genre. But, it can be felt. In every note, clearly, deeplyeach note seamlessly blending into the other.
The seven tracks are vintage Susmit featuring his trademark guitar work and incredible collaborations with classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal, Nitin Malik, lead singer of the band Parikrama, Assamese sensation Papon, his late band-mate Asheem Chakravarty and Sari Roy, who has come back to sing after more than two decades.
The album reconnects to the mesmerising instrumental sound of the initial days of the band which made them a cult in the first place. Depths of the Ocean leaves you curiously content yet wanting for more.

Depths of the Ocean is contemplative or rathar meditative to a certain degree. It is guitar but its explorations are not your mundane riffs but some excellent lead work which grows on you every time you heair it. Please don't mistake it for lounge music- it is deep and you are supposed to sink in. The fourth solo track - the longest in the collection is the best piece - innovative and very fresh. The compositions seem like a natural progression of fingers - there are no dramatic twists but an outstanding handheld journey from alpha to omega. Those who have understood Indian Ocean should have this collection and those who really want to understand Indian Ocean..here is the album to understand the backbone supporting the wonderful band. A Lovely Musical Treat!
Susmit Sen's first solo album extends his guitar work in a different direction from the well-known Indian Ocean albums. Susmit's collaborations with the different artists on this album allow explorations of different possibilities with his unique style of guitar playing. The 60 minutes of music is more contemplative, a bit more serious than playful.
