Melissa Gottlieb was a physically disabled teen with a learning disability. She was teased and taunted by her classmates, but refused to be the typical victim. On a news magazine show that Melissa watched, a stuffy, balding psychologist spoke: "The usual candidates for scape goats are children who are socially immature and over-protected." The blonde news commentator who sat in the psychologist's office asked him, "Why don't other students stick up for the person being victimized?"The psychologist responded, "It is usually because the outsiders, as these other students are called, don't want to be the next to be picked on."
