Does He Know A Mother's Heart : How Suffering Refutes Religion (English) (Hardcover) Price: Rs.315

A book for everyone who has had to contend with pain and loss

How can extreme suffering be so commonplace if there is a God who knows everything, who is all-powerful and also compassionate? How do the scriptures of our religions explain the existence of suffering? Do these explanations stand up to examination?

Does our experience testify to a God? Or do the two demons ? time and chance ? explain all that we have to go through?

In a devastating dissection of the scriptures ? laced with accounts of the suffering and pain that he has seen at first-hand ? Arun Shourie tells us why he has eventually gravitated to the teachings of the Buddha. And what lessons these teachings hold for our daily lives.

ARUN SHOURIE'S Stunning book

When we start to read it looks like a heart rending personal life misery, than it transforms into an amazing analysis of Quran, Bible and Hindu scriptures . May be one has to read quran and bible to know the characters like Job. Again he jumps to Mahathma Gandhi's opinion .

It is too frank and I read the first 200 pages in 15 days and the remaining 233 pages in 5 hours during a journey.

Very rarely we come across Indian authors analysing varied subjects and a non fiction interesting.

Interesting book - need to keep religion aside when reading this

Arun Shourie delves at length into the eternal question - God or NO God. He does a good job proving his point - albeit he ends up being relatively harsh on the Abrahamic Religions. But then being bound to a book of code, a manual it is easier to draw from them.

Overall a well rounded book, which does put some serious questions on the working of the God (in case the reader believes in the fact that there is one :)).

pleasure to buy with

It is very nice to shop with flipcart. service and followup is very fine. but a little problem with courier service. courier boy never confirms whether customer (my experience) is available on delivery address, i.e. office. he comes to office and then makes call. Afterwards asks to collect the parcel from his office. in courier office it appears that people there are much busy. they even does not enquire why a customer came to their office...! otherwise experience with flipcart is very nice.

Not the best buy for good readers

I would say this is a fine book, but those who are used to a better class of literature like the bookers and the nobels would find it rather boring. The cause invoked is pressing but the writer just goes a bit monotonous and unecessarily lengthens the book (View complete review)

An amazing book on how, in pain, religion fails ... and fails miserably. One has to read it till the last to feel the impact. (View complete review)
