Author Sudha Murthy comes up with this lightweight narrative Dollar Sose, which does not cease to teach its readers a thing or two. The outlook of this storybook is inspired from modern life and events. Murthy portrays beautifully through the story in her book, how the affinity for wealth can make individuals oblivious to the affection of their near and dear ones. It also shows immaculately how man becomes addicted to running after a façade of apparent status and prestige. So, in this narrative, a mother-in-law is shown to consider a dollar more worthy than human relationship and does not think twice before segregating her two daughters-in-law. The dollar earner is considered far superior to her rupee earning counterpart. She fails to foresee the tricks of the other daughter in law and a surprising scene unfolds when the truth comes out. The plot maintained in this book and its striking similarity to the present conditions and ways of life make this story a good read.
Born in 1950, Sudha Murthy is an Indian social worker and author. Her other popular stories include How I Taught my Grandmother to Read & Other Stories, Gently Falls: The Bakula, and The Old Man And His God. Murthy completed her B.E. in Electrical Engineering from B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology, standing first in her class. Thereafter, she completed an M.E. degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science, again standing first in her class. After graduation, Murthy held the distinct honour of being the first female engineer hired at India's largest auto manufacturer TELCO. Currently, she is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, and a member of the public health-care initiative of the Gates Foundation.
