Dork: The Incredible Adventures of Robin 'Einstein' Varghese (Paperback) Price: Rs.180

In Dork: The Incredible Adventures Of Robin ‘Einstein’ Varghese, the first book in the Dork trilogy, Sidin Vadukut takes a satirical look at the management consulting industry through the misadventures of a young, naive guy call Robin.

Summary Of The Book

Robin Varghese is an academically brilliant twenty something, sorely lacking in social skills. He  studies at a top business school in India. He is sarcastically called ‘Einstein’ by his peers. Robin  has deluded his extremely naive self into thinking that during the time of placement in companies, he will be the first in line to be recruited to a top firm, an assignment abroad, and a fat paycheck.

Instead, he ends up in a mediocre management consulting firm called Dufresne Partners, not abroad, but in the bustling city of Mumbai. He easily adapts to the office culture, or so he thinks.

Robin unwittingly commits one stupendous mistake after another, and seems to be at the center of every mishap that occurs in his workplace. His chronic misadventures make him the bane of his superiors’ lives. They regret having hired him in desperation.

With all the uproar he has caused, it seems highly unlikely that Robin will be able to achieve his short-term goal of becoming an Associate before the year is up. Unsurprisingly, the foreign assignments and hefty bonuses are also nowhere in the picture.

While his professional life is failing so spectacularly, his personal life does not fare any better. Just when he has managed to get himself a steady girlfriend, he falls in love with someone else.

It seems too much for the readers to expect that the stumbling, bumbling ‘Einstein’ will manage to get his act together. But the outcome is uncertain, and the book goes on to show whether his life takes a turn for the better, with time.

The book was published in 2010 by Penguin Books India.

Totally timepass. Dilbert meets Mr Bean meets Don Martin. The adventures of this totally wacked out mallu MBA are ROFL funny. Einstein is as memorable an idiot as the character played by Vinay Pathak in Bheja Fry. What can I say? Read it :-)

You'll love it if you have a good sense of humour..

When I saw the book first, I thought probably the guy was testing the waters following the foot steps of Chetan Bhagat.I couldn't have been more wrong. It's a completely different book with a writing style that I'd say only Sidin is capable of. In this book your laugh riot starts right from page one (and when I say page one I mean right from the intro).

However, if you are expecting some real practicle corporate gyaan out of it you will be dissappointed, this book is meant for fun and only fun, you laugh at every page of the book. Overall an essential stuff for anyone who loves a good straight-from-the-heart humour.

Sidin, what happened to you?!

Having read many other samples of Sidin's writing and having enjoyed most, I picked up this one just to show solidarity. But I'll have to admit that I couldn't hold up the show of solidarity past the first twenty pages!

The author is trying too hard to make un-funny things seem funny. I don't recall even smiling once during the twenty pages of supposed humour. However, I do remember cringing rather often. Utterly avoidable, this book!

A fine debut with a refreshingly different narrative

After writing a less-than-favourable review for Dork 2, I felt it only just to say what I felt about it's predecessor.

Dork was a much-awaited book by the Indian blogosphere, and for good reason. Sidin Vadukut is one of India's finest humour writers. Name one person who hasn't read his epic Travails blogpost and laughed out loud.

This book is written in the first person, in the form of diary entries. Brave move by Sidin, who has to deviate from his normal writing style and almost step down two notches to fit into the shoes of Robin Einstein Varghese. Does so remarkably well, and the book is a laugh-a-minute riot.

Yes, it's not an intellectual book. It's good timepass for 2 hours. There are some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. Enjoy it for what it is. There are hardly any lulls.

If you want to read Sidin at his best though, look no further than what he writes on his blog (www.whatay.com) and his stuff for Cricinfo.

First of all, flipkart is best when it comes to delivering. Kudos. Always on time.

So, I was browsing through the site Looking for Something Funny, Light read and then I came across this one. Sidin's name was enough to get me interested n later followed the open love reviews of the book. This is all great but quite misleading!!

As for my personal opinion, the humor is somewhat overdosed and poking to make u laugh. Hahaha.. NOT Funny. Irritating (after some time). There was one time when I was reading and thinking about the other readers' joy, smile and laughter while reading the same book. Didnt work.

So my take, yes it is funny but don't expect too much. Cricinfo is more fun!
