Drinking To Kindness: A Decade Of Madness On The Big Sur Coast

In 1976, Kristin Cameron came to Big Sur with her husband and baby to caretake a house high on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean on the rugged central coast of California. In a series of humorous vignettes from her journal, Kristin tells the story of her struggle to make peace with this wild and mystical environment, and the artists, writers, homesteaders and colorful local characters who lived there. The first person who befriended her was an old sculptor named Harrydick Ross, who comforted and counseled her and would always raise his glass in a toast, "to kindness." Through all the years of madness, these were the words she learned to live by.
