Eat Delete : How To Get Off The Weight Loss Cycle For Good (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.173

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija’s Eat. Delete. helps readers tackle their weight issues at its roots. It emphasises the connection between food and our minds, and suggests ways to develop the right relationship with food, and avoid the vicious cycle of losing and gaining weight, through guidelines based on scientific principles backed by psychologists.

Summary Of The Book

According to Pooja Makhija, there are no shortcuts to weight loss, and quick-fix diets don’t work. Weight loss begins by assessing what's on your mind rather than merely what's on your plate. In other words, we must first understand our relationship with food, what role it plays in our life, how we view it, and why we eat certain foods at certain times. Weight gain is a symptom rather than the problem, and hence needs to be tackled right at the source. In Eat. Delete., Pooja Makhija has combined scientific weight loss principles and dietary guidelines along with valuable insights from psychologists to present a holistic mind-body solution to weight loss.

One of the chapters of the book pertains to willpower and busts the common myths surrounding it. The book suggests that willpower exists in each one of us, and is a skill that can be developed or strengthened just like any other. Each time we say ‘no’ to eating a gulab jamun, it becomes easier not to eat it the next time around, and the reverse holds true as well. The book goes on to explain through simple examples, how neural pathways and habits get formed in our brains and how we can apply this understanding to give up wrong eating habits, and adopt healthier eating patterns that help us achieve weight loss that can be maintained over time.

Eat. Delete. explains how key concepts such as emotional eating, state of mind, fear and abuse of food, have a significant impact on any weight loss program. Furthermore, it helps readers design effective weight loss strategies and meal plans through the use of interesting questionnaires, comparative GI (Glycaemic Index) charts, a sample diet, and a cheat menu for ordering food at restaurants, and by applying principles such as positive visualisation and reinforcement, formulating the right goals, and mind control. The book includes a mini food diary for keeping a daily record of food intake.

Not worth the money

The "diet plan" section appears some where towards the end of the book with dubious choices like hakka noodles and biscuits.Nuts/cheese which can be a good source of good fat and protein are a strict no-no in the wt loss phase which is surprising.

There are diet plans for 4 calorie ranges , but there is nothing new. Rujuta's inputs def. make more sense and can be adapted in daily life.

Not upto the mark

I have been a huge Rujuta Diwekar fan. Her book, 'Don't lose your mind, lose your weight' helped me lose 22 pounds. When I saw this one, I was like, okay, let's see what she's got for me. However, this book really isn't worth it. Most of what she said was already known to me, thanks to Rujuta. Also, she has this 'weight loss phase' and maintenance phase, which are complicated as compared to Rujuta's 4 rules diet. Also, I don't understand why she forbids cheese and allows things like crackers and biscuits. The latter is a fantastic source of calcium. Although she says her diet plan is not re... ()

Although she says her diet plan is not restrictive, it really really is. I mean - how can you exclude ghee, dry fruits and other healthy stuff from your diet? They are amazing source of good fat and are great for the skin. Besides, she does not stress the importance of exercise as much. I mean, Rujuta also talks about different types of exercises, but this one is just dumb. People - chuck the book and grad Rujuta's Don't lose your mind, lose your weight.

what's on your plate

Deep inside, we all know that weight loss is never or can never be a race against time.

Pooja???s book allows us to accept this fact and also tells us the value in eating right. The lifestyle changes suggested are acceptable, doable and most importantly have a logic behind why and how our body will react to those changes. Without a lot of persuasion the book allows us to bust the myths around quick weight loss programs, something we already know but don???t want to accept. The best thing the book tells us is that ???The starting point of any weight-loss programme doesn't begin with what's...

EAT.DELETE : HOW TO GET OFF THE WEIGHT LOSS CYCLE FOR GOOD

I just finished reading the book and found it simply disappointing.I picked up this book at my local library in hopes that I could learn a bit more about healthy eating, as I am always searching, and found exactly that.In the fiist half of the book, Puja emphasizes on eating right stuff ie nuts, oils, etc, but in her meal plans she strictly tells to avoid nuts, sugar. You say eat this and then say BUT don't eat it. So it feels contradictory. This book has made lot of hype on food food but found actually worthless. The book should be more than just about diet but should contains all the in... ()

It is not arranged in an organized manner like Rujuta's book.Me and most other health conscious people do read the nutrition labels. So nothing new or interesting for me unfortunately. It doesn't explain how to read in correct way for biginners in the first place.Yaah..some reviewers are right. very few points are written "to the point"..I am not inclinced to rate it highly as a result.

Nothing new

Why I bought it : From Deepika Padukone , Sonam Kapoor to Sushmita Sen, big names of Bollywood have left no stone unturned to promote this book. Also, Pooja Makhija was awarded Best Nutritionist at Vogue Beauty Awards 2012.
My experience: This book didn't add any new feathers to my preobtained knowledge. Anybody who has read Rujuta Diwekar's books , can skim through this one in 30 minutes. I wish there were more extensive meal/snack ideas and healthy recipes. Fortunately, flipkart gave it a good discount ( honestly, 199 bucks would be total waste ) and a food journal came along with it. So...

Only for people who don't know what to eat.

The book has a lot of unnecessary content and doesn't come straight to the point of diet. It essentially guides people who are in lot of trouble and don't know anything about food.

The final result of this book was a diet of dal roti and veggies and fruits which I always follow and nothing new.

Good read

This isn't groundbreaking. It will just re-align your views when it comes to food.

We all use food intricately in our lives, be it celebrations or depression or just to survive. Pooja Makhija helps you to detach from deifying food and viewing it just as a source of fuel for the body.
