  • Description

Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert, is the story of one woman’s search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesia.

    Summary of the Book

At thirty-two, Elizabeth had everything she could ever ask for – a successful career as a writer, a house, and a husband. At least, that’s how it looked for the others from the outside. But she was extremely unhappy and was always in search of something, especially when her marriage failed to function well. After a nasty divorce and a few days of turmoil later, she spent a few months in Italy, India and Indonesia. Her time in different countries made her explore different aspects of life. She indulged herself in the delights of food and discovering the countries, and eventually her journey enabled her to find love and a deep spiritual experience. Elizabeth’s story has been made into a major motion picture, starring Julia Roberts. The book had remained on The New York Times best-sellers list for 187 weeks!

    Its a vacation reading it

Read the book back in 2006. It is the most well written vivid book I have read. I felt like I had gone through Italy and other places myself as I was reading it :)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Great book, something that I would like to gift all the women in my network. Unfortunately to do so would cost a fortune. The author traverses through the 3 I's of the globe, to cure, recuperate and grow her inner-eye or to be more precise her inner-I.The book is about a journey of self discovery and acceptance beginning in the USof A the first phase of eat is at Italy, the first I, the indulgence and pure pleasure of it all. Eat, Pray, Love - a stirring slice of life

A heartwarming book - one that produces a warm glow inside you and has the ability to make you look at life in a completely new way and gives you a new lease on life.

Elizabeth Gilbert is an astonishing raconteur and the way she weaves her tale about finding harmony like a japa mala is simply splendid.

Her experiences - whether it's on the streets of Rome or in an ashram in rural India or in the rustic beauty of Bali - make for a compelling read and the people she meets on her journey all p...

Emotional Journey from Despair to Joy and Fulfilment

An extraordinary narrative of the struggle of a person to face the tribulations of every day life. I enjoyed all the three parts of the book though the "Pray" part was basically essential for me being a monk. But it still was an insight in Italian eating passion and social life details of people in Bali. I feel it clearly shows the reader the refinement required in our concept of "Love" from downright self interest to primarily caring for the person whom we love. It is not what I want in Love...

    even for the cynic

I saw the movie first and honestly didnt think too much of it.. it was an nice enough.
I then read Gilbert's book Committed which she wrote after the mega success of eat, pray, love.. which made me want to read this book.. and Im glad i did.
I loved the book!! I guess all women would..
I tried unsuccessfully to persuade my cynical guy friends to read it, promising it would be better than the movie.
Gilbert 's writing is so fresh, funny and honest and that is what makes this book such a pleas...
