Ek Doctor Ki Maut (Collector's Edition)

This film is a treat for cinema lovers. Needless to say, Pankaj Kapur and shabana Azmi are awesome while script and direction are simple but powerful. Its a film with strong social message, rather it holds a mirror to the society. I was searching for the film for the past five years, and I am glad that I finally found it on Flipkart.

I will just echo what everyone here already said: NFDC has done a great job of restoring the print! I don't remember the quality on DD all those years ago, but I remember loving the film back then. And on DVD, the colors were good and the audio was clear. The film itself stands the test of time, looking as real and natural today as it did back then.

It is interesting to see Dipankar Roy live in that modest home, with a typewriter and stove, which reflects how most of us grew up. Big leap from today, when we are agitated at not being able to afford the newest iPhone every year. The story is based on a real life scientist that was hounded in Kolkatta till he killed himself. But many will identify with the frustration and futility of achieving greatness in India that made US migration the goal of every student since the 70s and well into the 2000s... Despite more opportunities in India today, the brain drain continues.

Performances by a very young Irfan Khan, and a subdued Vijayndra Ghatge is just brilliant. The Art-movie A-listers Pankaj Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Deepa Sahi don't even look like they are acting. The simple sets and natural shots (like the one where Dr takes a break, even a bath, in the middle of an all-nighter) keep the viewer enchanted.

Of course, this is a product from the so-called art cinema so expect everyone to take themselves too seriously, with almost no humor. Unlike Karamchand (the TV series) that has no surviving prints, lucky for us that NFDC has preserved one of Pankaj Kapur's best performances.

Whichever tiele has Pankaj Kapoor in the cat that has to be on my shelf.
He is simply amazing, he portrayed the chahracter so well which no one else could.
Amazing direction and story.
But the sad part i never knew of this movie before I stumbled upon it on Flipkart.
A must for the collector's video library.
Very good Audio and video quality, thanks to NFDC for remastering the deserving titles ('Jaane bhi do Yaaron' also in the collection).

This one is a brilliant movie. Someone recommended a long time ago. Never could get to watch it because it's really difficult to get copies of movies like these. They are obsolete but they are brilliant. Found it on Flipkart and ordered immediately. Movie was amazing. What amazing performances by Pankaj Kapur.
