Book: Eleven Minutes A chance meeting in Rio takes Maria to Geneva, where she dreams of finding fame and fortune, yet ends up working the streets as a prostitute. In Geneva, Maria drifts further and further away from love while at the same time developing a fascination with sex.
Eventually, Maria's despairing view of love is put to the test when she meets a handsome young painter. In this odyssey of self-discovery, Maria has to choose between pursuing a path of darkness, `sexual pleasure for its own sake', or risking everything to find her own `inner light' and the possibility of sacred sex, sex in the context of love.
A daring modern fable about the nature of love and sex.
Book Reviews of Eleven Minutes
An honest attempt to explore what does it mean by sex and love Review by Vacha DaveI have not come across such an honest attempt to explore the most sought-after subjects : love and sex. I must say that the dignity and the gracefulness that is being given to the world's oldest profession — prostitution — is also amazing. It leaves you with a poignant question — what is the difference between the profession of prostitution and any other profession of this world? Don't we all professionals are like prostitutes? And, if we all are like that, then, why is it that prostitutes are not considered normal human beings as other professionals?
It also comples you to think about sex and love. What it is, why it is and what is the meaning of it? I particularly like Paulo's very strong statment suggesting that sex is like a glass of overflowing wine. It means that sex is just an expression of overwhelming feelings of love and gratitude for the other person. You are so full that you want to share it with the other, and the most basic instrument for sharing these overwhelming feelings is your own body. I am just in the state of awe by thinking how sex has been given the highest spiritual stature. A stature that it truly deserves. To have sex is to surrender to the Supreme Consciousness and to be one with That. After that all contradictions and hypocrisies of life are eliminated and you are floating in the ocean of eternal Happiness and Joy.
One of the most important thing to be noted is the importance and sanctity given to woman's body. It is marvellous. A woman's body is somehting which is to be worshipped and not to be used. The author strongly supports a woman's right to have sex, to love and to be loved. I think, anyone who thinks about these subjects should read this book.
Happy reading!!
