Though it is a book on specific disease. The author describes how the treatment is evolved through various stages using discoveries made in related fields. Very easy to read, gripping. Good book to buy
There is a wealth of information provided in an easily understandable form. I found enough material in the book for giving an introductory lecture on Oncoviruses for MBBS students! I feel each and every medical student must read this book, preferably before he/she completes the MBBS course. The mental imagery the prose evokes opens our eyes to the horrors of cancer and why it will shortly become the number 1 killer of people. A 5* effort from the author and a must-have in any library.
I read it as a book that would bring joy to me in times of sorrow. Although the topic of interest brings sorrows to the family of the patient I got be fall in love with Siddharth's writings. As a doctor myself i did never know the delicate intricacies of cancer cells. How alike they were and how each single cancer in every single patient was different from others.A wonderful book for doctors interested in history and literature. Well written crisp but exhaustive. It shows how exorbitant efforts are needed to come up with a masterpiece like this. More than the efforts put for the book I congratulate Sid for his efforts in the field of cancer research. A fantastic book for doctors and public health persons who have never understood study designs in detail from Community Medicine books. the story telling skill makes medical subject of cancer which is dry and upsetting also very interesting. I would rate it as the best book I have ever read in life.
This book by Dr Mukherjee bought a tremendous effect on my work ethics .I work for a clinical research industry and I recognize and acknowledge this book for a in depth dive for Oncology. We participate and work in many clinical trials and majority of them are Cancer trials.
On a average cancer trials in our industry we generally check to increase the life expectancy of the patients since there are no complete cure for Cancer. There are loads of side effects on the chemothrapy and after reading this book I feel more responsible when I am heading a trial for oncology. I check all the details again and again with great care and accuracy. Try to find a logic in more depth with the relevent Adverse events n other incidents.
This book actually drew a face for "Cancer" to me!!! I now can relate my work, knowledge and with this dreaded disease very clearly. I feel more responsible to conduct and analyze data from those trials and keep in mind the ordeal this disease has created worldwide.
I work with some top 10 pharma company in the world in their oncology trials and I have recommended this book to many of my clients and gifted too few of them as well.
Together we are still fighting against this disease and hopefully will be able to save the earth from his clutch!!!
A strongly recommended book for all those who have a thrust for knowledge and ready to dive deep with the author for the facts and figures!!!!
A gripping history of cancer and the early and current challenges the researchers and people face every day to tackle and win over the Emperor.
A must read.
I ordered this book on Flipkart after this book won the Pulitzer. Needless to say, it is a very well writern book on cancer, where the author has managed to turn a squalid subject into a memoir. He makes you hook on to it as if its a work of fiction.
Few days back one of my friend urged me to read this one, written by young doctor!
So started reading this book! What an amazing book this has turned out to be so far!! Great storytelling about CANCER!! Interesting , entertaining and informative…
Shall complete it in few days.. yet I urge you to read this book whether you like cancer or not, whether you like non- fiction or not or whether you read novels or not!! as this unravels the mystery of the malignant disease called CANCER!
I am proud to write a review of this outstanding book by an Indian ,which has portrait the mind status of cancer pt and the doctors (Oncologist) above all the western country mission against war on CANCER .
After reading the book ,i find out Indian ancestors commitment in cancer medicine are not shown, which is to be explored well by the author being an Indian and others.why not let me too try it.
Above all the current Indian scenario in cancer biology research is too poor, the reason is not lack of resource ,not lack of knowledge, but the mind status of most Indian scientist in the field of research in Cancer ,which is the hidden message from Indian born American.( Dr.Sidhartha) .Most cancer biologist (Researcher) foot are from western country from the first chemo drug Dr.Farber to the current targeted therapy. Why there is not even single born and brought up INDIAN commitment was not pictured in this book.???? Albeit there are great research work by an Indian in US & UK lab. WHEN you finish reading you will get the answer ....
Hats off to the author Dr,Siddhartha ..and his team and family .May all the soul RIP who has committed there life for research (cancer war)
