Empire Of The Moghul: The Tainted Throne by Alex Rutherford is a tantalizing account of the struggle for the Moghul throne, where multiple factions contend for power.

    Summary Of The Book

The fourth book in the globally acclaimed series, Empire of the Moghul: The Tainted Throne is about a race for power and its consequences. Set amidst Jahangir’s reign in 1606 Agra, the book is one of betrayal and bloodshed. The book contains a unique paradox; Jahangir had battled his father himself. In Empire Of The Moghul: The Tainted Throne, he faces an impending battle with Khurram, his most capable son. Timur the Great’s heirs have their own strengths and weaknesses. Physical valor, strength and intelligence go hand in hand with a love of opium and wine. With Jahangir’s increasing temptations, his queen Mehrunissa nurses ambitions of taking up the reins. Simultaneously, Khurram and his half brothers nurse similar ambitions. The Moghul throne spawns a savage and ferocious battle.

In Empire Of The Moghul: The Tainted Throne, Jahangir manages to capture his rebel son Khusrau who declared himself ruler. Jahangir is seen as a ruthless emperor, prone to insecurity and crushing all possible opposition somewhat savagely. Khurram and Jahangir’s relationship is also shown in the book along with a picture of Mehrunissa. The book shows Mehrunissa’s domination of the Moghul Empire and court. She conspires to create a rift between father and son and encourages his dependence on opium and wine. Her plotting against Khurram occupies most of the book. After Jahangir’s death, the three siblings Khusrau, Shahriyar and Khurram try to capture the throne.

    Riveting Stuff

I just love the way the narration has been tackled by Alex. At times, the incidents happenning in the book never seemed like they occured 400 years back. You could actually sense them taking place in front of your own eyes. Masterfully written!

A secure Empire,,, but of course there will be internal disputes.

The story begins with Jahangir just on the throne, after having wished for it for so long..
He has to build up the broken relations with his sons,.. but most of all wants the one thing due to him since long... Mehrunissa... how he conspires to get what he wants.... then comes the guilt of it all....
Then comes the turn of the most strong headed female in the Mughal Dynasty, powerful enough to rule on her husband's name , and also cunning enough to put a crack in the father-son relationship......

A must buy for history fans

This is the fourth book of Empire of the Moghul series and I have loved each one of them. In fact it is the first series that am following religiously. Alex Rutherford combines fiction with history so perfectly that it doesn't ruin the history and makes it believable. You cannot keep down any book of this series. Its a perfect buy for someone who loves historical literature.

Also, I love the discounts that Flipkart gives. and the delivery is also very swift.

    A very good sequal

I have brought the previous three books and loved the first two books but was disappointed with the third book "Ruler of the world" i had found it slow and boring and was hesitant to bring this book which is next in line...but i was not let down..like the first two the book was gripping and i found it hard to keep down..
the story is about the Emperor Jahangir and the next ruler to be Shah Jahan..How Shah Jahau is the good and loyal son and how Jahangir loves him but then due to the jealousie...

    Questions and Answers
Q:How is the book for the age of 12 / 13
A:Its History. If the child is used to reading books which are not very light reading then its fine. Else it could be a bit heavy. But you should encourage the child to read history.
